Okay Escapist, I need help. My DVD queue is getting rather short of DVDs mailed to me. I'm not a picky person but I'm not a big fan of westerns. I need ideas!

Not sure what Netflix is, but... I just ordered John Woo's Hardboiled from Amazon. It's a great movie and I can't wait to re-watch it.

Otherwise... Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Downfall (Der Untergang), Pan's Labyrinth, The Professional (aka Leon), and Planet Terror are some good ones you don't hear about everyday.

I say pick movies at random... You might be pleasantly surprised, or severely disappointed.

Netflix is an internet rental website. You give them your address and pay a monthly fee and you can have X number of DVDs shipped to you where X is the amount you pay monthly. The value comes with how much you watch. As for the movie suggestions. I actually own the Professional, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Pan's Labyrinth, so you're on the right track. And, have good taste in movies in my opinion I'll have to check the others out! Thanks

haha, if you haven't watched the series "The Wire", you should. It's 5 wonderful seasons long and was originally on HBO, netflix has it.

more movies (you probably already own):

Cool Hand Luke
Taxi Driver
Seven
Up
LA Confidential
Sin City
Bachelor Party
No Country For Old Men
Dog Day Afternoon
Donnie Darko
Ed Wood
American Beauty
Alot less of those I have seen. I will have to check these out. I have never seen seven. that's the problem with Netflix, it's a kid in a HUGE candy shop. No matter how many rare, exotic, and otherwise delicious candy there is, I go for the Hershey's bar.

I personally loved both Falling Down and The Boondock Saints

And I would recommend both of them
Both of those are AWESOME movies. Wow, I think i might be getting to a never-ending list of netflix movies if I can keep this going.

Chrysalis and Immortal are some good, scifi french movies.
Let's see... The Horseman on the Roof is good, (also French) and um...
If you haven't seen the show Weeds, Pushing Daisies, or Dead Like Me yet, you really should. Also, if you know anyone in healthcare, you'll get a kick out of Nurse Jackie.
There's also The Fall, which is just visually stunning, and features Charles Darwin kicking ass.
I'm trying to think of things you've probably not seen before, but my taste in movies may be too girly for you, probably. Still, the ones I've posted here are above average movies, if not to your taste.

just get every movie by Wes Anderson and just go on a binge.

That or really just pick out crazy things that look kind of interesting, then weed through the final list.

Add on a bunch of TV series. They are all multiple discs, take longer to view then a single movie, and generally are more entertaining too.

I'm just gonna name an array of genres and movies I like or are at least interesting (I'm also going to avoid most fairly recent movies, as I am assuming you have seen most of them):

ahem

Gattaca
A Scanner Darkly
The Count of Monte Cristo
Once
The Motorcycle Diaries
The Jacket
A Midsummer Night's Dream
Session 9
Equilibrium
The Sound of Music
Bloodsport
I <3 Huckabees
Moon
Titan A.E.

I think I covered a lot of variety in there, so hope that helps.

Sunset Blvd,12 angry Men,Let the Right one In,The fountain( a bit iffy on that one-but its still worth the watch), Lindsay Anderson's "If....",Amelie Poulin, and...well I don't know. Thats all i've got.

I know your strife. I LOVE netflix. I'm getting the netflix set box soon and I'll be the person who with all these variety of movies just ends up sitting back and watching Back to the Future the bajillionth time. You know, because I can.
