I wouldn't mind the explosion of recent badges so much if they were all awarded at the same time, rather then slowly trinkling in into my inbox.

I like them. I wouldn't have found out about There Will be Brawl or Doomsday Arcade otherwise.

No, I'm pretty sure its not by accident... I have, afterall, accomplished all the tasks of watching Escapist video's to get the badges (since I watch pretty much everything on this site). It just seems a tad too easy, really =\
Even then, not every badge has to be a back-breaking experience to obtain. It's like how Achievements/Trophies come in different point amounts based on how hard they are to accomplish.
Yeah, this is a good point, but toiling for over a year to get the number of badges I had to then suddenly find myself with twice as many badges for something I didn't think took any effort at all seems a bit... well, wasteful. Couldn't I have at least worked a little bit towards getting them?

I just got into figuring out that Unskippable was actually funny a few days ago. I spent the entire day watching all the episodes... I now have 6 new unskippable related badges, and counting... Yea, it's a bit dissatisfying, but at least I have 3 rows now...

Recently, new badges were introduced into The Escapist, rewarding people who watch shows on the website (other than Zero Punctuation)

Now... since this happened the number of badges I have has well over doubled in count, within just 3-4 days. I feel that it was a bit over the top, frankly... I found myself losing the satisfaction in acquiring new badges, and I felt like I was acquiring these new badges without really putting any effort or contribution into the site.

So, what does everyone else think? Do you think its getting too easy to acquire badges? How do you feel about the new 'content' badges?
yeah the badges are kinda pointless. i thought they were meant to be awarded for getting people involved with the community, but whats the bloody point if all you have to do is watch a crap load of vids

its pretty annoying, its come to whenever i see i have a new message i think "oh god more spam", i keep hoping that someone has commented on on of my posts and that i may have the possibility of an interesting debate or that its a private message from some guy who thinks im a girl and ask if i wanna cyber, admittedly the last scenario is a bit creepy, but it would help me become better at English and its still superior to getting yet another badge from reading a cartoon 3 months ago.

They make me want to stop watching the Escapist so I stop getting them.

Is there any way to delete badges?

Well, technically, you did. You wouldn't have those badges if you didn't watch the required videos in the past. Besides that, there's more to The Escapist than just the forums, and the new badges are a way of kinda saying "Thanks a bunch" for viewing the other content the site has to offer.

And of course, let's not forget that quantity =/= quality. It doesn't matter how many badges you have in the long run, people are going to judge you for you, not what you've got under your avatar.

This happened to me as well. With the "let there be brawl" badges, I'm sure it's a swell show just never got round to watching it

I watched them ages ago (well as soon as they came up) and the other badges seemed to work without me watching them again (for Rebecca Mayes and Unskippable that is)

Well, to a certain extent, I understand what you're saying. A glut of badges have gone out in the past few days. We've been working on the technological implementation of awarding badges for enjoying certain kinds of content for some time now, and now that it works, there's a lot of catching up to do. So just sit tight, this wave of badges will slow down in another few days and things will be back to normal.

In the mean time, shinies!

I recieved about 8 badges in the last three days. I think it might be a little much, but it is a good incentive to check those videos and articles out.
