...has done nothing to endear me to the platform. I mean really? the Yogscast game? (excuse me while I vomit that that even exists)OctoDad? MORE source mods? one of which seems to have it's only selling point be that it's nonsensical bullshit? FUCKING POSTAL 2?!? why is stuff like this getting approved while promising titles like Shantae: Risky's Revenge, Salvation Prophecy, and Inquisitor languish in obscurity? it seems to me at this point that rather than letting small indie games have a shot, all green light is good for is getting games that either:
A. Have outside popularity
B. are borderline memetic
C. are source mods
D. have zombies (seriously out of 25 approved games we have what? 7 that bill themselves as survival horror. just why?)
get on to Steam, and that is really sad, as the system seem to have a lot of potential, but my concern was always that with the Steam community you just can't have nice things. agree? disagree? your thoughts on the platform thus far?

Capcha: Where to go?
well since you ask, at this point I would say that trying GOG.com or self-publishing are better option than greenlight.

For people wanting the full list:

Afterfall InSanity Extended Edition
AirBuccaneers
Blockscape
Contrast
Fly'n
Folk Tale
Forge
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Project Giana)
Gnomoria
Interstellar Marines
Lost Story: The Last Days of Earth
Miasmata
Miner Wars 2081
NEOTOKYO
Octodad: Dadliest Catch
Perpetuum
POSTAL 2 COMPLETE
Secrets of Grindea
The Intruder
The Stanley Parable: HD Remix
Yogventures!

TBH, it seems pretty good. Postal 2 is stupid, yes, and Afterfall seems quite generic, but most of the others that I check out seem pretty solid.
Also just because you apparently dislike survival horror doesn't mean that it shouldn't get approved or whatever.
And of course the really small indie games don't get a chance, if the bar was set so low that some unknown indie game can get slapped on and approved really easily Steam would just become a massive cluterfuck of shitty games.

His point wasn't that there were zombie games at all, but that there were 7 of them. 2~3 zombie games would have been plenty already... Heck with all the zombie games out already these days you could even say that we have enough of them and don't need more.

Actuly I don't hate survival horror its just that the Greenlight community seems to have a massive hard-on for them (again, out of (IIRC) 25 approved games I counted 7 SH games), which leads to games that look utterly generic getting approved presumably just because it says "survival horror" in the description. PS: thanks for posting the full list, I really should have put that in the OP, but I'm lazy.

Afterfall is Dead Space but with a focus on melee combat.

I even took to calling Doc Tokaj (The protagonist of Afterfall) 'Isaac' in my LP just because...he's totally Polish Isaac.

Damnit, I was hoping they'd have released that WW1 Call of Cthullu game by now.....everyone with a Steam account, I implore you! Greenlight that game!

Air Bucanners and Neotokyo are both excellent mods that fully deserve a chance in the spotlight, good for them. That goes for Stanley Parable as well, great mod!

Never really heard or care about the rest. Postal 2 really is a terrible game, I've never understood the popularity behind that one other than juvenile 'shock' humour.

I'm just wondering why there are (at this time) 30 games greenlit on Steam, and only 1 has been actually released.

that about covers it. I don't disagree with it's existence though. Freedom means sometimes having to witness things you'd rather not.

This, I wanna play Black Mesa but I wanted the simplicity of just downloading off Steam but it's taking ages :(

Yay, let's all play a source mod that should have been released years ago.
Meh from me.
I haven't seen anything on Greenlight that has really stood out, too many generic zombie games and platformers for my liking -although I do like the look of one of the isometric coop zombie games.

This.

The only important information should be how many people are going to buy it. People who vocally aren't going to buy something aren't more important than people who non-vocally aren't going to buy it. It should be thumbs up to mean "yes please, put this product up for sale because I will buy it", and abstain otherwise. Thumbs down is saying "I'm not going to buy this, and I don't want you to buy it either".

The fact that people keep upvoting them would indicate that we don't yet have enough of them. If people want to buy more zombie games, then it's in the interests of Steam to sell more zombie games. Personally, I hate zombie games. But I appear to be in a minority.

They've renamed it to "No thanks/Not interested". No thumbs-down symbol. It's just there to remove the game from your list. I agree that the original button symbol wasn't very clear about what clicking it achieved.

Well, a number of the Greenlit games haven't actually been finished yet. And I suspect the rest are working their way through the Steam QA system.

Oh they've changed it? That's good to hear. I despise down-voting with a passion.

You mean Valve had an idea that turned out to suck? I'm shocked /sarcasm
Hohoho, get a load of this guy.
