The new owners are getting ad-crazy

I might have to stop coming here if this continues. There is plenty of adspace on this site. Adding a popup in front of every video as a barrier for entry to see new content is a bit ridiculous. I didn't see a "suggestions" thread anywhere so I'll just add a suggestion here. This is not some fringe website that uses excessive ads to compensate for lack of consistent visitors. I implore you to stop it or this site will die.

It's not the commercial that was before every video prior to the swap. Those are tolerable because they're often for the same product being talked about in the video anyway. No. It's a blaringly loud musical popup window. Remember those when they were on TV constantly, the decibel level of the commercials being 2x that of the show they're with? Same thing.

For me, the overlay ads in front page have been kind of cumbersome. I don't mind video ads as much (though Escapist had some crappy SlimJim commercials for a long time which I wouldn't mind if I never saw them again)

I guess I could pay for membership. But I don't see much attraction in bigger avatar, etc. *Shrug

I was having a problem with the ads in way of the text box, which was so annoying.

I contacted the Tech Team (You should voice your opinions there if you have any problems) and it was quickly sorted. I think I may have saw it once more, so I assume it's something to do with my browser rather than the site.

I agree it can be irritating but obviously websites need their revenue somehow.
I only really joined PubClub this morning because they're donating to charity for everyone who joins, but also because I was having to fill out Captchas every single time which can become quite annoying and because of my problems with the ads. I couldn't seem to close them when I was on my phone too.

But anyway, the only advice I can give, is to pay the Escapist some money to make the ads go away.
That is to say, purchase their subscription service.

Pay someone to stop being annoying when you can complain about it to their face as retort or LEAVE THEM?

Yea, I'm Pubclub myself but sometimes when I clear my browser history (totally not for pronz) I come to this site and I'm like WOAAAAH when I see all the Ads.

Also, Remember admitting to using Ad blockers will result in a warning, I wonder if a doing so while being a pubclub member would result in the same? hhmmm.
