Yeah I just finished it last night.
Brought me right back to the old days of when Sonic actually had something going for it.

What they did right:
Level design is exquisite, multiple routes, awesome sense of speed, some very cinematic moments.
Interesting Levels, they look great and play great as well.
Rehashed levels are better then what I remember them to be, I can't quite describe the feeling I got when I was running through Speed Highway again, they took what was great made it better, more intense and more action.
Variety, so much, almost every level has something new, they keep things fresh, constantly surprises.
Music, they got it right, every level contains remixed music from its original counterparts, I can't stress enough how good it was to hear some old theme music from some of the stages again.
Tight controls and just the right amount of difficultly.
Interesting side quests, they really put in the extra mile on this one, most of the optional side quests are actually pretty interesting and aren't just time trails etc.
I preferred playing as Modern Sonic, since I wasn't really around for his 2D bout.
Everything felt right for Modern and Old School Sonic, in my opinion the Modern Sonic version of the levels are abit easier since you have more freedom of movement more attacks etc.
The old school Sonic levels provide a more "old school" challenge.

What they didn't do so well:
Length of the game, I can't really complain, every level is absolute gold, but the 9 levels which makes 18 when you count Old School game mode and Modern Sonic game mode. Goes so fast and since its so enjoyable, just makes it go past even quicker.
Last boss was a little frustrating, but I found that a common trait among most Sonic games.
PC porting is abit meh, I'm just nitpicking at the moment.

Anyway anyone who was on the fence about this one don't be, it has so much to offer old school fans, Sonic hasn't been this good in a very long time.

It's good because they used the older games. I for one have to wait to get mine. Got a friend from New Zealand to send me the UK/Australia exclusive collectors edition.

No! We need to destroy the Macy's Blimp before it defiles Sonic's name!

/sarcasm.

Anyways, I'm quite enjoying the new game. More runny jumpy spinny action.

What's the new game called?
Sonic Generations,

I was thinking of picking it up on Steam for $30. Wish it had a Chao Garden though.
God I miss that feature so much. Probably one of the best pet simulators of all time was... ironically in sonic adventure 2, a game you'd figure would have nothing to do with raising tamigachi pets.

Anyway, I ordered my copy on Amazon, hoping to be playing it by next weekend. Very happy to hear Sonic has gone uphill since colors.

I just bought it a day ago and have been playing on and off. I'm pretty sure I'm at the second to last boss. While I think it was worth the money I paid, parts of it are frustrating and the boss fights just aren't much fun to me (however easy they may be). Most of the levels are fun though and don't cause me a lot of grief, and Modern Sonic feels great when you start learning the stages and begin to get through them faster than you ever thought you could. I can't say I get the same enjoyment from Classic Sonic, but his levels are still fun as well for the most part. Unfortunately, it does seem to be a wee bit glitchy at times which leads to unfair deaths, but most have admittedly been my fault for not using Boost or the Spin Dash carefully. All in all, considering this is the first Sonic game I've purchased in 5 or 6 years, I'm very pleased.

Its not without its faults, but its probably the best Sonic game in 10 years.
Last year's Sonic Colors was a step in the right direction, good to see Sonic team making some self conscious changes.
Makes me wonder what they're going to be doing next year, I mean its not a very easy game to follow up from.

If I had a 3DS I'd probably get it, if only for its absolutely epic remix of the Sonic 3 final boss theme:

The game's still a touch spotty in places, even classic. Though I can't say that for sure; trying to run the game on my 2007 MacBook Pro is like trying to launch a flailing tiger through a bullseye. Really bites back when you miss. So many platforms missed.

It's far from a perfect game, it's far from a perfect Sonic game. but it's a great show of progress.

I absolutely love it. The only couple of problems I've found were that the last boss fight was a bit crap and that the main story was quite short. Love pretty much everything else about it though. Also I love the avatar awards that have allowed me to become Robotnik (although nobody calls him that anymore)

I'm already getting the game for Christmas if Steam puts it on sale (please please please) and hope they release more nostalgia with DLC. Normally I'm not one for DLC but in this case, since it isn't with online passes or anything, and I really want Sonic to make a comeback, I may even buy them all...

Nice to know that everyone thinks it's good, though.

I personally thought Sonic and the Black Night was pretty good. Never played Sonic Colors but it looked alright. Sonic Team is learning. Maybe we'll get some more gold like, maybe a third Sonic Adventure? I've always wanted a multiplayer mode where you can fight as a character's super form... what? I can dream.
