I'm not gonna lie. I'm not a fan. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a decent zombie movie, but it doesn't look at all like a World War Z movie. World War Z was a book about the grim stories of the survivors of the zombie apocalypse. It was not an action movie. The most action there was was one of the stories about the Battle of Yonkers, a sort of "last stand" against the zombie hoard by what was left of the US Army. Putting the "World War Z" title on an utterly generic zombie action movie just seems like an obvious cash-in that's just making people angry.

What do you guys think?

This will sound like a weird question but...has there ever been a zombie movie with a good actor in it (as in, a great actor who is considered an A list celebrity)? That alone makes me excited for this movie.*

The second thing that makes me excited? It looks from the trailer that they have the giant battle that I can't believe zombie movies have ever tried.

I'll forgive it for looking like a generic action movie. Frankly, I don't think World War Z (a very good book) would actually work as a movie. I don't mind them using some...creative license in their movie.

*EDIT: SovietHeavy mentioned Cillian Murphy and his ever so dreamy eyes in 28 Days Later. However, Reaper195 makes a good point in that Cillian was NOT an A-lister at the time since it could be easily argued that 28 Days is what boosted Cillian into A.

*EDIT 2: Multiple people have called for I Am Legend but that is more "vampire" than zombie. Especially the Charleston Heston version. We could reach and call it "zombie" I suppose...

This looks like it has the potential to be a pretty decent movie. I do like the almost ant like way these zombies are behaving. However, this is not World War Z.

As was already said, World War Z was based on the aftermath of the zombie war and had huge potential with its original story. Imagine, an interviewer travelling the world and talking to survivors. Flashbacks of each persons story. The amount of freedom that gives a film maker is enormous. The stories don't even have to tie in together. The link is the interviewer. Just take the most awesome tales of zombie survival and tell them all in one film without the need for shitty characters and love triangles.

This is going to be just like I Am Legend. Nothing in common with the source material except the title.

Looks like they're taking the bits and parts they liked from World War Z; military fighting zombies and the undead scaling the walls of a complex, but leaving out... well, the rest of the book.

Pity, still might end up an entertaining popcorn flick. What I'd love is for something on that short story in the Survival Guide about the Romans fighting zombie Gaul. Make for a great piece of alternative fantasy fiction.

I'm gonna agree with you. If I ignore the fact that this is way too far from the source material, and just look at it as a regular zombie movie, this has potential to be really good.

I'm sure they're putting in the fast zombies to increase the action and suspense. I've personally have never been against fast zombies. Sure, it's not scientifically realistic to have a decaying corpse running, but when has it ever been scientifically realistic to have a corpse moving at all? :p

When did the undead scale any complex walls in the book?

Can't remember whether it was World War Z or the Zombie Survival Guide, but it was the fortress for the rich and famous. Massive walls defended by armed mercenary guards where wealthy people could buy a place for protection.

...already beaten this early. Anyways, this just looks like 28 Weeks Later 'Murica edition

I can already see a problem.

If the zombies are THIS easy to kill (you can see dozens being shot down in the trailer) how the @#%^ are we doing to bad against them? Zombies can't fly, they can't take on helicopters, their sole means of reproduction/food also are their greatest predators, zombies can only run to places, how are they spreading out and killing BILLIONS of people that fast?

In World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide Max Brooks goes pretty into it and explains exactly why and how.

In this movie though I've no idea. These zombies are clearly more the '28 days later' type rather than those described by the books.

Well I was hoping that this movie would stick to the book and be really interesting and engaging. Nice to see early on the writers didn't even look at the book other than the title.

This. I can see major cities being troublesome with lots of losses but the military exists independently of these, and they never seem to explain how zombies without heavy weapons manage to destroy tanks and other armoured vehicles.

Yup. It's just what a feared.

"Let's buy the name of a popular book, it will attract the fans."
"But there's not a singular hero to follow as he saves the world."
"Well then we'll change it. Change everything."
"Won't that annoy the fans of the book?"
"Fuck those guys! We need new fans, they'll love the new direction."
"Well then didn't we just waste millions buying the rights to a name that no one seeing the film will care about? And people who are fans of the book will hate the film and probably not bother to see it?"
"You're fired Jimmy!"

There wouldn't be enough time for a movie to properly tell the documentary style story of World War Z. Perhaps it would have been better for them to pick one story from the book, such as the Indian General, and go with that.

World War Z I think would have worked better as a TV series, with each episode telling the story of a survivor. It would need hack of a budget though.

I confess I think the movie does look good, with the zombies acting more like a wave. It might not be World War Z but it could still shape up to be a good movie.

Can you destroy all the zombies before you run out of ammo and fuel. If you can't then you are stuck in a metal coffin waiting to die.

It was World War Z.

Those weren't zombies in the book, they were refugees who saw the luxuries stockpiled in the fortress from media coverage of the fortress and its inhabitance. Yes in the middle of a zombie apocalypse the rich stopped to gloat, and in the end only a guard and a one of those rat sized toy dogs survived.

I wonder what makes Mr Pitt special enough to defeat a few billion zombies,
the trailer seems to portray him as man-kinds only hope XD

I wont judge the movie till it's out, but the trailer seemed rather sub-standard,
Seemed more like a summary for the films first hour.

Meh. All I get from this trailer is 'meh'. It feels like they tried to hard to have massive action scenes, leaving little room for anything else. I prefer The Walking Dead style of zombie films/tv shows to this over the top action movie. I could be wrong and the movie could turn out differently but that's the impression I get from the trailer.
