It's quite a lovely thing to hear. And no, I'm not talking about games they publish like Rage or Brink. I'm talking about the games that they are developing. I found an interview you might be interested in. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-16-bethesdas-todd-howard-interview
any thoughts? Theories? Additions to this plethora of information about the next game?

Bethesda revived a dead series and then they got yelled at for it so I say "What ever they make will be awesome, they are the underappreciated RPG gods!"

i'll never forget my first time playing oblivion- i didnt know about the fast travel system so i started walking towards the objective when you come out of the sewers. on the way there i found this town where all the residents had been turned invisible by a local magician. when i started to play the game again i could never find that town again, no matter how much i looked. magic =D

If it isn't TES (my favourite series of games of all time) I am seriously going flip the fuck out.

But it will be. Mark my words.

Underappreciated? Their sales figures disagree.

Fallout 3 was disdained by the majority of the Fallout crowd because it didn't FEEL like a Fallout game: It felt like Oblivion with guns and a wasteland that HAPPENED to have Rad-X, Supermutants, and Deathclaws. The trademark humor and atmosphere was nowhere to be found, and the game lacked a certain charm that the Fallout games always had (but I'll not use that as evidence, since that's A) Subjective and B) likely to be interpreted as nostalgia).

Fallout 3 isn't a bad game by any means, but it doesn't FEEL like a Fallout game.

Heh, I thought it had the FEEL of Fallout and I was a fan of the series beforehand. I was also a fan of TES series before Oblivion and Fallout did not FEEL like a TES game. The reason why many nostalgic Fallout snobs didn't think it had the fallout FEEL was because the game was not made in 1998. Fallout 3 was a tremendous game that did marvelous things for the series and if it were not for Bethesda the series would still be dead. It brought new fans to the franchise, satisfied many previous fans (such as me) and is one of the best action RPG's ever made.

And you're entitled to that opinion.

The reason I didn't think it had the Fallout feel definitely didn't stem from nostalgia, since I played Fallouts 1, 2, and Tactics four weeks before getting Fallout 3.

I'm not saying that Bethesda isn't to thank for reviving the series, and it is definitely a great game. But I don't think it had the same shimmer that the Fallout games had. I wasn't able to imagine myself in the DC Wasteland as well as I was the Wastes of the previous Fallouts. Which is sad, since Fallout 3 had such beautiful modeling, texturing, and mapping. The world of Fallout 1 and 2 just captured my imagination more, and that's what I love for a game to do.

*EDIT* Edited to remove double quotes.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this... But I liked Morrowind a little better. At least on PC. True, there was no fast travel (without the {player-> coc "TownName"} console code, anyway), and it wasn't as beautiful as Oblivion. But the gameplay, the extensiveness of the map, and don't even get me started on the mods that people are STILL making... It was a much, much more in-depth game than Oblivion. Take the beauty of Oblivion, the variety of Morrowind, the mods of both, and I will never leave my house again. I'll end up like that one dope who's suing over his "addiction" to Lineage II, but happier and not in court.

Please, Bethesda, ANNOUNCE IT ALREADY!

Heh, when I played Oblivion, the first mod I got was a Mark/Recall/Interventions mod because I missed that system so much. Personally, I liked Morrowind a lot more too, it had better art design and backstory than Oblivion, and felt more like a real world.

I lost faith in Bethesda for about a year before Fallout 3 came out. Oblivion was brilliant, but just not up to Morrowind's standards.

Edit: From the linked interview:

"Todd Howard: There's always stuff to improve. If I had to take a step back, I think our worlds are very good, I think we're on the cutting edge as far as that goes. When it comes to the characters and the animation, I think there are other people who do it much, much better. That's something we've put a lot of time into - not just technology but people and talent, and how long we spend doing individual elements."

Well, at least Bethesda is aware of their weak points and know where to improve. That's most encouraging.

I'm real hesitant when it comes to them. I'll probably play whatever it is, but their quality has slipped the last couple games they've done.

Fallout 4 or GTFO Bethesda.

Seriously, I don't think my mind can take another Elder Scrolls.
