World War One.

And no, it wouldn't be all boring trench warfare. It's pathetic how misunderstood the Great War is. If they did it well, it could very well open the door for more WWI games. As it is, only the bravest of the brave try to make them now. And by the way, the Japanesse campaign has been done before. ALOT. Ever hear of Medal of Honor Rising Sun?

The Future setting has also been beaten half to death, Fallout 3 being the only creative and original future setting (1950s style). I'm sure that the mediocre developers of the world and the mindless herds that follow them will soon beat the life out of the other half, but whatever.
Oh ya, I forgot about Rising Sun.

Resistance: FOM and Resistance 2 had sort of futuristic 1950s/60s settings too, with advanced weaponry and stuff. It wasn't as creative as Fallout 3, but I thought it was entertaining.

I think they should focus on individual people thsi time. Think about it, Call of Duty: Jack Churchill or Call of Duty: Audie Murphy would be seriously badass. Wiki them and find out why ;)
this seems like a great idea. after some thought, the game might not actually work but if there was a way to add those characters in it would be epic.

It was a good game, and probably the best World War II game available.
Excuse me, the best World War II game ever? Doubt it, there are better World War II Games. Honestly, I didn't hear any hype about the previous Call of Duty's. Yes, I'm talking about the stone age, when a certain amount of players played CoD 1, 2, and 3. Now a days, there are way too many kiddies playing CoD 4. Honestly, it just gets annoying.

And the reason why CoD: WaW has such high sales is due to it being a sequel. I mean a year later they released the game after releasing CoD 4.

And yes, as Pyre00 has stated before, the Pacific campaign has been done before.

No, then the game would turn into a Battlefield 2142; we don't want that to happen!

I agree with you. They should make a World War One - that would be very interesting. What I find funny is, ever since Call of Duty 4 came out, people have been saying, "Oh World War II has been way over done." Of course it has, but no one mentioned anything beforehand until AFTER the release.

Yes, Fallout 3 did succeed in actually creating a decent future setting.

Could this be possible for the Call of Duty franchise?

Time will tell, my friends --- time will tell!
Unfortunately, I never played Call of Duty 1 or 2, but I did play 3...on the Wii (not as good, plus no online), so CoD4 was my first online CoD experience, but I hear that 1 and 2 were really good and could stand toe to toe with 4 and 5. 3 was apparantly the worst of the bunch.

Anytime involving muskets and only being able to stand in a line.
The History Channel made that game, it was the Civil War on the CoD engine.

Last I checked I thought I heard it was 'Nam [http://kotaku.com/5237870/rumor-call-of-duty-moving-on-to-vietnam]

i think the way the COD series is going it should be called: "call of generic"

its becoming so generic that they are probably going to have Will Smith as a playable character fighting yet more generic bad guys

disclaimer: i have nothing against Will Smith, im actually a big fan
That'd be badass to have the fresh prince as a supporting characters voice...

I think it should have a nuke that kills EVERYONE so there can never be another incredibly unoriginal sequel. Even though, God knows, the next will have nazi's and be set in world war 2

It should take place in the Roman era.

I seriously doubt that will happen.
As cool as thinking about it is, i seriously doubt that as well >.<

Especially since there are no guns in the roman era.

How about this: they stop making fucking sequels.

Yes, they're fun on occasion, but where the hell are they going to go? Same everything, but new perks? New maps, maybe? I don't think so. Not if they want my respect.

In other words, I want to play Call of Duty 4, in space.
Testify!

I got bored of WaW really quickly - and from the number of preowned copies ive seen so did a lot of others.

I think a crazy spin on an fps would work. I'd buy it - the only reason I play COD on xbox is how fast I can join a game.

There's lots of cool conflicts that will never be made into blockbuster games because they don't involve Americans killing Nazis/brown people.

Semi-off topic Question..has anyone played Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway?

That was cool..especially when you blew up a german MG42 position and the game did the action camera sequence..and especially headshots..THAT game got headshots down pat because you know when you hit someone in the head with a round..THAT action camera sequence rocks..if only more games did that.

I wouldn't mind a few more World War 2 games..but have it be more episodic..say like the
Battle of the Bulge..
I remember Microsoft had a ww2 game, Close Combat..They didn't do the whole WW2 campaign..They only focused on a certain aspect of a theater..such as Operation Market Garden.

What about those movies that came out..Defiance and the upcoming Inglorious Basterds? A game set up Sam Fisher like in WW2 would be cool..Suppressed .22LR High Standard pistol
