OT: I'm not too fussed over it since I have no intention of getting it since I'm a PC gamer (Might get the PS4 though, nostalgia and whatnot) but the name doesn't sound so terrible to me, not really getting why people hate it.

No longer Durango and not 720, it seems that the International Business Times has gotten information from "ources related to development of the new Xbox" that next Xbox will be known as the Xbox Infinity.

It doesn't sound as implausible as anything else that's been put forward up until this point but we will find out in just under a week.

Why can't it be called Xbox Infinity? Why does it need to be called Xbox 720? The original Xbox was not Xbox 180, it was Xbox. I don't think the Xbox Series is really dependent on circles (Mind you, an infinity sign is 2 circles next to each other, looping into one another, but really).

OT: I like the name. As long as it's not Internet Dependent, and as long as it has some good games, I'll probably get one.

I say that because it has already been christened by the community as the 720. Everyone talks and thinks of it as the 720. It makes sense from a marketing standpoint to ride that. I see your point though of a circle as infinity. Rather than the symbol a 360 circle can be conceptualised as a line stretching to infinity and all points in a circle are in fact the same point. It also has an infinite number of corners (or 1 depending on what thought you assign too)

I still think the 360 moniker for the second generation was a crap move and I disagree that the next one should be labelled the 720 just because of a community joke that got out of control. Personally, I think they have cornered themselves into using a non-numeric naming convention for at least the upcoming generation and should attempt move towards an incrementing numbering scheme unless they plan on never having backwards compatibility in future models. It is a lot easier to keep track of a incremental numbered system than a series of abstract names.

Bioshock Infinite is the third Bioshock game, XBox Infinite is the third XBox. Coincidence? I think not.

But Bioshock Infinite was good... With Microsoft's push away from gaming and toward an "all encompassing entertainment device" and social networking they have a long way to go to be good. :/

It's like they're using children's logic of "a higher number is better" and think that by calling it Infinity they are going to win once and for all. If it is called this thing then I can just imagine Sony dicthing whatever idea they had after the PS4 and calling the next one "Playsation Infinity Plus One!"

As long as we're all wildly speculating anyway, I'm just gonna say that it will be called the Xbox 2, and the 360 will just have been a spin-off.
