I never understood the idea of evil or bad numbers like 666 and 13, I know their origins but I don't understand why we are still avoiding them.

They are just numbers something imaginary that we created, you could compare it to the boogie man or some other mystical creature

Re: Religious Wars

If a nation leader starts a war for religious reasons or beliefs, religion must take some of the blame.

If a nation leader starts a war for entirely political reasons, but uses religion as a scapegoat, the people OF said nation are committing to this war because they believe X nation goes against their beliefs and they must defend them. While the cause of the war may be a lie, the people back it because of their faith and so scapegoat or not, religion again must take some blame.

Finally, if a nation leader starts a war for entirely political reasons, and lets the people KNOW it's for political reasons, and religion is never brought up, then and ONLY then is religion not to be blamed. But keep in mind, if the leader of said nation starts mentioning God or his faith, it falls back to the second case.
Actually, even if the leader states that he's going to war on religious grounds, I'd still classify that it's the leader using religion as an excuse, unless of course the religion specifically states that it's alright to go to war. This is as they use most religions actually condemn violence, so they're not following the religion, but using it to acquire a following.

Gotta go with Burld, root, duck and the others on this one.

Were living in a world in which we can build supercomputers, sattelites and whatnot, Do we honestly need an ancient book full of symbolism to tell us that killing is bad? Hell no...
Solomon said it best I think in his oft quoted Eclesiasties 1:9-10 "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, 'Look! This is something new'? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time."

As for the difference between Christianity and say Buddhism, is that Christianity, when defined by the words of Jesus himself (for a start Matthew 6-7), is humanly impossible. Dropping out of the cycle of Samsara is incredibly difficult, but with enough patience it is possible. What many people (including 'Christians') don't realize, is that God doesn't want good people only perfect people (and as we all know, NOBODY is perfect). It's kinda like going to your wedding with a pristine white suit and spilling red wine on the lapel, suddenly it doesn't matter how white the rest of your suit is, everybody's gonna be looking at that stain. But of course, that's just half the story of Christianity.

As for the Devil's number, I wouldn't worry about it. Whatever form it takes, it's going to blindside the world. Also, Antichrist isn't going to be Damion from The Omen, instead think Obama with a +10 Cloak of Charisma. (and no, I'm not suggesting that Obama is the antichrist, just that he'll be super likeable)

How to deconstruct religion in one question:

Have you ever been dead?

No. Shut yo mouff!

Humanity has more concerning matters than kow towing to some crazy middle eastern cults from thousands of years ago. Number game gibberish, "morals", psychopathic Gods, and conflicting/contradictory/hypocritical beliefs = waste of time.

isn't it always the way the someone mentions something loosely religious and immediatly a religious debate begins.

the way i look at it is that religion forms the majority of law in the place where its mostly worshipped. Likewise with cutural opinions. Therefore religion is responsible for war, peace, and generally the world we live in.

I just deleted a paragraph because i was rambling, to cut this short, i consider myself an atheist because there is no proof of any religious figure. Likewise there is no proof against, however religion limits you to doing things by the book or you'll be damned. I mean the whole if you repent on your death bed, you get an all access pass? Bah i'll live my life as i see fit, and deal with the consequences as and when they come.

Apologies for spelling, grammer and general wording but this hangovers a *****.

Quite succinct, but what if we apply that line of thinking to other things?

How to deconstruct toxicology in one question:
Have you ever drunk cyanide?

Anyway, if you run around worrying about what happens when you die, I think you've missed the point of religion. But I agree with your sentiments, we should be spending our energies on creating a heaven on earth while we're still alive (and believe me I am still alive... couldn't resist :p). There's a great Zen Buddhist parable about the identity of Heaven and Hell, but I'm feeling too lazy to recount it.

I don't understand why this universal rule that's being discussed is called the Golden Rule. Seeing that gold is the greatest symbol for man's greed it seems a little out of place...

As for the entire religious discussion, I'll pass, these are dangerous and unknown waters for me and I shall not venture onto them.
