As someone who frequents Funnyjunk, I would just like to play devil's advocate and point out that The Oatmeal's original claim that Funnyjunk was "mirroring" his comics was very stupid. All content is community-uploaded and Admin can't afford to pay for moderators. Additionally, Admin put in place measures for the community to self-moderate copyrighted content.
Thats why the guy at the Oatmeal wasnt sure what to do. He wanted it to stop. But he didnt know how. He asked people how to proceed. Not a single threat was made about suing or otherwise.

And yeah the admin and his lawyer are looking like total asshats right now. Its pretty much a case of 1% wrong/99% wrong to both sides. The admin is losing in every single way.

I've decided to mock these fools further by registering a couple of domains to commemorate their stupidity. It's http://funnyjunk.us/uck and http://charlescarreon.us/uck - hopefully that'll show up in Google's search results soon :)

I love that the top comment on the annotated letter http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk_letter is "can I upload this to funnyjunk?" Epic win there. Epic.

Yeah, he can't pay for mods, but he can pay for an expensive loud-mouthed lawyer to do his bidding.

Good call. I don't think "can't afford mods" flies any more when you bring lawyers on the table. Maybe he could have paid ten bucks to his nephew or something to keep the offending materials off the website. Or maybe get some volunteers and have them clean up the place. I'm pretty sure volunteers would work, since they do so everywhere else. Well, depends on the FJ users, I suppose.

glad someone made a thread on this on the escapist. I was about to because it's really shady. I'm glad the oatmeal is winning this. This should be a reminder to those who think they can sue to get their way on the internet. We as a community should support those being bullied and defame those whose bully.

Okay, there's got to be a lead mine leaking into their water supply somewhere...

I love how Carreon is "convinced Inman has been instigating the madness." He has no clue that he himself is the instigator.

And, wow... just wow. The wife... what a shrew.

"It's a very, very bad thing that's happening on the Internet right now" yes and if you'd just wise up and stop doing this very bad thing you wouldn't have so many problems.
