On bobbleheads, yes, you still get the bonus. I am clueless about the food purifier though, maybe it just increases health gained?
This. You don't need to put it anywhere, it's a passive effect.
Yep, according to the wiki, it increases HP yield from food by 20%, but leaves the rad rating unchanged. Should have looked there first, I guess, but thanks all the same, guys.
You need to keep it equipped for it to have continued effect; when I cached mine before goin' fishin' (with miniguns... what, there's no fish&game laws in the Capitol Wasteland, are there?) I got a warning message on my HUD that it was no longer giving me a food benefit. Mind you, at that point I had something like 44 stimpacks to-hand and more purified water than I could carry so I wasn't worried.

-- Steve
The food purifier needs to be kept in your inventory to be effective. But I'm talkinga bout some kind of usable item that would activate and be used and would turn Mirelurk Meat into Mirelurk Cakes and the like. Bobbleheads grant you the bonus from the moment you pick them up to the moment you complete the game.

Here's one for you: Is it possible to get yourself killed during VATS? I don't notice any health loss, whatsoever.

Something strange happened to me recently in Fallout 3. You know the regulators, the guys you give the fingers for good karma and money? Well I was heading in to hand a hefty number in but all of a sudden the lady I hand them to rushed out the door. I followed and the place was under attack by scorpians. I killed them but now the lady is gone, I can't find her and can't hand the fingers in -_-
Feck! Same thing happened to me. A bit of a bummer, I have 70 fingers burning a hole in my pocket. Maybe I can arrange in a floral mosaic in my Megaton home... ah, so many decorative possibilites.

I'm a bit confused as far as the Bloody Mess perk is concerned. I picked it up in Tranquility Lane, and for a while, it worked; my enemies exploded in showers of gore. But eventually it stopped working; enemies would only explode into showers of gore if I shot their rotting corpses a few times. Does it stop working if you reach a certain level? Is this a glitch/bug? Am I doing something wrong?

I've not noticed this at all. It's more likely to happen when you do more damage in one attack. Have you switched to a different gun? Say from the Combat Shotgun to the SMG or something? If that's the case, you might be doing less damage per shot which could reduce chance of Bloody Mess activating. Try getting sneak attack criticals/critical headshots/VATS headshots or a combination of them and see if it works. Generally I found that a headshot from VATS with my Hunting Rifle which killed an enemy would cause their limbs to explode. Generally aiming for the head is a good way to help guarantee a Bloody Mess explosion.

It seems odd that it doesn't seem to work on anything but dead bodies. Perhaps you should pop into the console, remove the perk and then add it again?
That'd be:
player.removeperk 00094EBA
player.addperk 00094EBA

For Bloody Mess. See if that helps fix it.

Ok, here's another really random question: when you're holding something in front of you, is there any way to re-orient it? The reason I want to know is that I have a garden gnome I found, and I want to put it on a shelf in my house. But when I "drop" it out of my inventory, it's on it's side. I can't figure out how to get it to stand.

Pick it up from the top (Z on PC I believe) of it's head and move it up untill it's the way you want it, then slowly move it down into position.

Come on guys, we need to keep this thread alive! An epic game like Fallout 3 deserves a truly EPIC thread! And we should try and get wilson one of thos nifty "1000 post thread" badges while we're at it (if he doesn't already have one) :D

And Fallout 3 truly is epic, in my opinion. I've just been having so much fun exploring all the little nooks and crannies in the Wasteland. Like when I stumbled across a derelict old dairy farm that was now a raider camp, or a little personal fallout shelter in downtown DC now home to a single feral ghoul (and his creepy decorations - a mannequin and a gnome with knives and scalpels stuck in their torsos and eyes O_O). What really weird and random but also cool things have you guys found?

I encountered a glitch while playing tonight that was actually kind of funny. I only regret that I couldn't get it on video.

I never encountered the kid that starts the quest for most people. Instead, I just stumbled upon Grayditch and found Doctor Lesko's shack and computer. At the end of the quest, the doc asked me to find the kid back in Grayditch and help him. I check my map but the marker isn't anywhere in Grayditch, it's just West of the Sewer Waystation.

I travel to the Waystation and go to where the marker says. No kid, just a Yao Guai. I kill the Yao Guai and start looking around but still no kid. I start to wonder if maybe he's hiding in the sewer, but then I notice the little green dash on my compass. So I walk very slowly and narrow it down to a large boulder. I go into sneak mode and the game helpfully lets me know that I've been detected...by the rock.

I was able to find a spot on the rock that let me talk to the kid inside. After I talked to his aunt in Rivet City he teleported to Grayditch where I finally got to meet him face to face.
I encountered him outside the Super Duper Mart once. Not sure how the hell he got there.

First time I played he popped up outside the Super Duper Mart as well, while I was doing the Survival Guide quest for Moira early on. I think that was the first quest I did as well in the game that wasn't "Escape from the vault/Go to Megaton." Second time I've played through I didn't do the survival quest straight away and while I was running around near the Citadel after you first gain entry, I saw him getting shot by raiders so I jumped in to save his ass. Not that it was necessary, I don't have the child killing mod installed, the kid couldn't die.

Oh man, did I have fun at this place. First sneaking along the outlying cliffs and the roof of the foundry, taking guys out with my sniper rifle. And then running around on the ground blasting raiders with my shotty. And I had a lol when this one raider chick ran at me by the shack up in the cliffs, and she tripped a grenade trap and took herself out.

And there was also the whole bazaar underground! There was an epic shootout down there, my friends. And BONUS, I didn't have to schlepp all my loot back to Megaton, I sold it all to Smiling Jack!

And then, there's the Behemoth. I didn't release him to beat down the raiders because I wanted all that sweet, sweet XP for myself :D But I couldn't really kill him in an efficient way because I left my damn Fat Man back at my house. But just for lulz I saved and then decided to kill him anyway. After using all of the ammo for my assault rifle and sniper rifle, I used my laser rifle to finish him off. The killing blow - a critical! The whole behemoth disintegrates into glowing embers. A truly beautiful sight.

Man, I'm just lovin' this game more and more.

I walked straight into some place called "Deathclaw Sanctuary".

Apparently, the name didn't give me the hint.

I was playing a character who I wanted to focus on using Energy Weapons with. After a while, I noted that I was contemplating the murder of everyone I met. I decided this was an indicator of me wanting a new character, so I made a Raider. He kicked the game off by blowing up Megaton and killing Lucas Simms to get the sweet hat and assault rifle. He later returned to Megaton to kill the two people he found alive.

Then, and idea hit me: I could make a character to be Jayne from Firefly! He came to be thought of as a good character, but as a belligerent prick he riled up a few people. Pretty fun.

Now, I've made a guy with Medicine and Melee, a 'Jack the Ripper' sort of chap. I'm worried that I'm getting bored with the game.

Also, I'm having trouble trying to get the demo of Fallout 1 working on my Windows XP laptop. A little help, please?

Yes. Damage resistance is higher during VATS, but you take damage. I have been killed during VATS.

I got killed by a deathclaw the other day during VATS, yet I believe its the only foe that can do this, since a single attack from it can cost you almost 1/4 of your health bar.
