So the old republic has an official release date now 20th of December in the US and 22nd in Europe. For more details check it out here http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20110924
So who shall be playing it on the release date? Not me as they forgot to include an entire continent to sell the game in...

I'm calling it now: A lot of people will be... unexpectedly 'too sick' to visit their folks for the holidays this year. :p

I admit, from the looks of things the game's shaping up to be entertaining, but my soul still belongs to Dark Millennium.

Captcha: ordsorb mourned... Is Captcha trying to tell me a story? :\

Nope.

Although I won't be playing it because I just don't like the game. To me it's WoW without Blizzard's polish and extraordinary art style.

I definitely won't.

P2P models in MMOs can really just go die in a fire.
Exactly how I feel about the microtransaction model.

OT: Tears of joy man. Tears of fucking joy :D

Nope. Love Star Wars and all it's games, but I don't do subscription fees. Besides, I don't have enough free time as it is, an MMO is a no go.

Me.
I need something good to fill this WoW-shaped hole. Hopefully this will be it.

I will be! New MMOs are always interesting, even if I'm unlikely to cancel my WoW subscription at the minute.

The question for me is whether to pre-order a physical copy or to buy it digitally. Physical copy means more hassel and probably playing it a few days after release (so that whole "early access" thing goes right down the pisser). Digital means fucking Origin.

Yeah, because forcing players to pay money every month to play your game rather than giving them the option to pay for aesthetics is TOTALLY the right way to go about it.

Yeah because 99% MMOs there that use the microtransaction model only use it for aesthetics. Oh wait, no it's the other way around.

Definitely will be.

Got my pre order ready and itchy fingers to get in the headstart.

For one, you are not 'forced' to pay. You have a choice, either pay or don't play. No-one is holding a gun to your head.

And microtransactions end up costing more than a monthly sub to get the same content. Look at all P2P games that went F2P and they have increased their income by a hell of a lot because they charge a lot for the extras.

And no where near is it only aesthetics.

20th of December? That's barely more than a month after Skyrim! I'm going to be too busy, I'm afraid.

Seriously though, as much as I would love to keep going in the KotOR universe, I had a small run in with WoW a while ago, in that I was obsessed with it for three years :p, and I've stayed away from MMOs since then. I don't think that this will be able to lure me back.

I love the KOTOR universe as much as the next guy, but MMO's have a tendency to be broken at launch, most of you reading this probably don't give a shit, just thought I'd warn you.

Been wanting to start up an MMO character for a while now, but I'm still going to see how this does first and then decide a few months down the line.

Yes, they seem quite intent on keeping it out of Australian hands.

Our internet is shitty enough without having to use foreign servers; I was going to give this game a fair go, but now it will never be.

I've got the Collector's Edition pre-ordered. And it's almost paid off, too. Just got about $25 left to go. Not only will I be playing, but I'll probably take a few of my excess vacation days around that time. Pretty convenient, honestly. I always take a few days off around Christmas, so it just works out for me.
