I don't mind it too much except for when you don't know your suppose to lose, you can put up a fight and you end up fucking around for half an hour, wasting all you?re resources and wondering when the enemies are going to stop coming at you only to find out you can't win the battle anyway. Thankfully this dosen't happen often.

I remember it from Golden Sun where Isaac and Garret is facing the two guys early on in the game. and yes, I reset the game to try again.

I dont remember the game, but I was in a supposed to lose fight, but the problem was I was soo good at it that the game was having trouble killing me. It was a stalemate for ten minutes until I realized that this guy;s healthbar should be way lower then it actually is and while I was thinking about it he used an insta death move.

And how about boss battles that you have to survive, but you can't win? I actually remember one of these.
Final Fucking Fantasy does this every frickin' time for me. Particularly FFXII and XIII. Turns out you need some really elaborate strategy that you could not have fucking known before the battle to defeat whatever douchebag boss decides to make you his next rape victim.

I would die a little every time I had given up trying, thoroughly convinced that the aforementioned rape was unavoidable, and heard the sad "YOU SUCK! GAME OVER NOW!" piano music. Then I'd get mad and say "WHY DIDN'T MY OTHER PARTY MEMBERS JUST TAKE OVER--THOSE FUCKING COWARDS!"

Good times, good times. Hopefully FFXIII-2 keeps up the tradition of ass-rape.

The first Deus Ex had you go up against Gunther in the park if you didn't stay to save your brother. You have to lose, and Paul ends up dead. And then you have to fight him again in Paris anyway. How irritating. Of course, you could stay and fight will Paul to save him...and you "die" there too.

Also, the ending to co-op in Splinter Cell: Conviction. I will not spoil it, but if you have played it then you know how much of a WTF moment it is.
I quite liked that moment in Conviction, actually.

The World Ends With You was kind of bad about this since I actually killed a boss like this and it played out as normal. At least I got a rare item.
Only one fight ever has this as its defining feature: Taboo Sho Minamimoto. And it's not like you'd beat him on your first go anyway.

One of the God of War prequels had an annoying one, You've killed Ares but Charon the Ferryman is too much for you!

The only time I've ever come across this it was on FFX. It was so long ago I can't really remember what it was... I remember I was fighting this big boss type character who ambushed me and as the battle progressed you either got pushed backwards or pushed the boss backwards depending on how you were doing. I got him pushed back pretty far until it wouldn't go any further. Then I started losing and got pushed off the edge in to some ravine, which it turns out I was supposed to go. I was really confused and annoyed with it at the time because the idea of being supposed to lose never even crossed my mind, and I was actually pretty pleased with how well I was doing in the battle early on. I have never played any other battle like that since. I guess it's because I don't really play JRPGs any more. Never did much to begin with anyway, but you get the idea.
You're not supposed to lose to the Chocobo Eater. You can, but you're not supposed to. Defeating it by draining all its HP earns a certain item and knocking it off the cliff is rewarded with an even better one.
Oh right, I wondered why the game seemed to be giving me false hope... I guess I just suck at the game.
