The Outer Worlds can be best FPS/RPG hybrid since Deus Ex?

Hello friends,

Recently theres a game got announced by Obsidian the Outer Worlds. and quickly become my third most anticipated game of 2019 next to Metro Exodus and Doom Eternal. the more i see the more it looks interesting but when was last time we got amazing FPS/RPG hybrid? well it was Deus Ex Human Revolution before that it was original Deus Ex and System shock 2. STALKER is FPS with light RPG mechanics so not counting it anyways. Fallout on other hand is very poor shooter RPG hybrid.

Unlike fallout or witcher. the game doesnot use open world apporach which is plus for me instead its linear yet open level design which is what we need today. the combat looks better than any of RPG game in past years even though its once again bullet sponges enemies. so everything about this game looks excellent.

it makes me realize that it can become best FPS/RPG hybrid since Deus Ex.

Remember that this is an Obsidian game without Chris Avellone on writing so....expect the story telling to be no where near as good as Obsidian's last games.

What's with all the borderlands-y games coming out? High octane, bright colors, running jumping, RADICAL and AWESOME. Its like the devs all grew up in the 90s watching Nerf commercials and are now making Nerf or Nothing FPS.

What's with all the borderlands-y games coming out? High octane, bright colors, running jumping, RADICAL and AWESOME. Its like the devs all grew up in the 90s watching Nerf commercials and are now making Nerf or Nothing FPS.

It sounds like a natural pushback against the trend of grey-brownish linear FPS that filled the industry a couple years ago. I wonder what will be after this.

I wouldn't mind more bioshocky/Dishonory(I know those probably aren't real words, shuddup) type games. Fantastical yet kinda serious. Kinda a Steam/Diesel punk aesthetic, since I still don't think either is inherently awful, just prone to attracting a lot of dumb fans and awful attempts which tend to devolve having everyone wear stupid top hats and weird looking monocles.

did Bioshock have a bad fanbase? I love the game but I was in high school when it came out, so i have no idea. Bio Infinite thinks its smarter than it actually is, although it is smart, but I don't remember toxic fans.
Never really did the dishonored series so that I cant speak too.

But I agree, this FPS steam punk genre is underserved this generation

I think it has my attention and interest, so long as it keeps sounding like a more cartoony and silly version of Fallout: New Vegas. The moment I see gameplay like Borderlands, I'm out.

Other than that, chances are we won't see release until late next year. So guess we'll see then if it's the bestest.
