I played through the entirety of DS1 using M+KB...

Granted it was using DSMFix, but that didn't change the controls... I think.... Was set up too long ago to remember...

I also don't quite understand why it's OP's fault for playing on KB/M in the first place...

I mean, sure, I personally know that From Software only ported to PC because there was a market for it (DS1)... But they flat out warned us they didn't know what they were doing back then... That's fine...

But the devs DID say that they were truly putting an effort into this port and took the extra month or so that PC gamers usually have to wait so they could make it better...
So, in the end, I don't see what the problem is... If it has crap KB/M controls, after they'd made a serious effort on making the PC port, then I'd be disappointed too...

That being said, why did they have to change the control scheme DS1 had? I liked light/heavy attacks on L/R mouse buttons with Shift and tab for off-hand controls... Once I learnt the layout I thought it worked well...

Let's ignore everything said up to this point and just answer this one question.

Neither the developers nor the modders has made this work perfectly yet, why do you think that is?

Everything in this world is like it is for a reason, this is no different.
Lazyness on from softwares part.

As for the modders, well the game just came out. The last fix wasn't there instantly either, and none of them have any obligation to repeat their work.

If an unpaid non-profesional could achive it, its reasonably for me to expect From Software to copy his work this time around. Or rather their own work, since the double click issue, wich is the worst offender here because it makes certain moves unexecutable, didnt exist in DS1. They just had to remove doubleclicking completely from the game, since the game was never intended to be played with KB+M and DS1 didn't have it either, that couldn't have been that hard.

I really like your approach here, since these threads get messy and confousing after a while, just sayin.
Hm I suppose they could, but maybe they can't for some reason or another? It's possible.
And no, the modders don't have to, but I would think that if this was actaully a big deal for any of them they would do it if they could. Since no one has just coppied the fix from last time, that tells me that something may be different this time around.

I have no idea if that is true or not, just what my logic tells me.

Holy shit dudes, calm down. The KB+M on DS2 is fine, I beat the game with it and managed to snake one or two invaders along the way when it was necessary. It's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Jesus Christ. Alternatively: You might suck with KB+M (which is, by the way, fine). I personally cannot stand playing the game with a controller after playing the first one with KB+M (and my first attempt on the PS3 of DS2 proved this to be enough of a deterrent when paired with the framerate drop). And you know what? Yeah, I suck with a controller. Sue me. I'm just glad there was an actual in-game option for MOUSE SUPPORT this time around.

Everyone's so god-damn defensive of their little corner for some unknown reason, sheesh.

THAT SAID...
OT:
Yeah, the port isn't amazing. It's average, but the game is still excellent, so I can't really complain too much for a baseline PC port. It's just nowhere near as bad as the first game, so it's still an improvement in my eyes. There are some rebinding issues for mouse specifically (when you rebind heavy attacks to something besides double-click makes you just stand still when clicking too quickly; this should have been fixed. Hard.)

I can live with it thanks to some mods, but at least they aren't 100% necessary this time around.

EDIT 2.0: OH ALSO

Oh my god the game IS OPTIMIZED. It actually RUNS! On EVERYTHING! The requirements are so forgiving. The first game -still- has frame problems at times.

Thank you for getting me :D They just didn't deliver on a promise they made, thats what irks me.

I also googled mods for DS2, the modder who delivered the last fix is apperently working on graphic mods first, he did that last time too.

I beat it to and overall liked it.

You never noticed the delay for simple attacks when you just leftklick/rightklick? Maybe its just me, I like to rely on super precise timing.

But not being able to do special attacks was what really got to me. Or did you work around all of it by completely mapping the attacks away from the mouse?

I play DS2 with keyboard and mouse and i do just fine. I mean I suck at the game, but that's because I'm bad. The one thing that pisses me off is that I can't rebind the lockon button from o to q......

Never noticed any delay, although I kept hearing that people had issues. Maybe I got so used to them that I stopped noticing, I'll try a mod to remove it to see if it was there.

And sorry for the tone, I kind of blanketed everyone here having these grandiose arguments on how "UNPLAYABLE" and "AMG Y U KEYBOARDIN" when someone even mentions the want of having the features for it there.

Special attacks? What do you mean? You mean the L2/R2 equivalents? I just rebound those to Shift+l-mouse and Shift+r-mouse. Um... Other than that, I'm really bad at kicking and jump attacking? Is that what you meant?

You probably noticed that I dont really try to argue with you. That is because you never even played DS2 and your theory of the skill to fix a bug that has a clear origin and a clear fix and didn't exist it From Softwares last game, being out of From Softwares reach, makes me unable to take you seriously.

That feels a bit like trying to talk science with a biblenut, I make arguments based on facts or observations but you will just come at me with made up stuff.

Also, you seem not to get what "being a profesional" means. It means getting paid money for what you do. The excuse "i couldnt do the work you paid me for" stops being acceptable if you took my money anyway with no intent of giving it back.

I never minded your tone so no reason to be sorry ;)

Exactly i meant the kicking, wich is actually a shoulder push now, and the jumping attack. I take it you didn't use them either then.

Obviously you can get through the game without them, but I just think it proofs that the controls are rather bugged instead of unprecies or awkward or anything the like, because something that should work doesn't

Hm, you should be able to rebind that the way you want to, unless q is mapped otherwise.

Oh my god, sorry for all the double posting I keep overreading posts i want to quote.

That's fair. I've managed to kick a couple of times, but often enough it wasn't intentional. I'll see into a mod for that as well and see if I like using them. If those were omitted from even being functional I'd be very disappointed.

But yeah, I'm not really a kick/jump type of guy. Maybe it's time to learn!

Basically you can "kick" if you count the delay your character waits for the double-klick in, but that is borderline impossible to do, except unintentional situations where it gets you killed of course :D

I dont get why you try to discuss a game you have never played.

Although I said I wouldn't I will try to explan this to you again. If someone promises me a certain product, then takes my money for said product, but doesn't deliver on his promises the excuse "I couldn't do any better" doesn't count.

If I sell you a car and promise: "You will be able to drive said car as soon as I hand you the keys." But you would then have to discover that the car you bought from me doesn't have wheels, that would not be okay from me. If I then say to you: "Well I'm a car guy not a wheels guy, sorry" that would not excuse what I did.

I remember a PC game that had this huge outlandish arcade style control system you had to purchase in addition to the game or not be able to fully access your mechs functionality. That damn thing cost me nearly $100, on top of the $40 I spent on the game. Now while it was technically possible to play on KB/M, it was far from recommended, and though that probably threw some people off the game, i never heard one complaint about it (at least not about the controller issue).

And that's a poor comparison. A car with no wheels isn't going to get you anywhere which is the purpose of a car. The game itself works, it's a functioning game. Even if it isn't functioning as well as it could it still is infact working.
My comparison is not the exact same thing? shocker

That clearly makes my core argument: If you get paid money for a product or a job and then don't deliver on the promises you made to sell said product or get said job, the excuse "well, i'm just not very good at this" will not get acceptet. Less relevant.

It seems the modders are busy with graphics mods, but like you said thats just speculation.

The point is you belive From Software really tried and couldn't fix the issue and i believe they didn't even bother to test the KB+M controls to even notice that you can't to the jumping attack for example. We will probably never know who is right.

I just feel that the game was sold to me under false pretenses, since From Software clearly stated that the KB+M controls would work fine this time around. That feeling is what gave birth to this, rather entertaining thread. Thank you very much for participaiting :)
