The people who make threads keep getting banned!

Could a mod actually let us know why WolvDragon was banned? If it's a requested ban, then a mod should just be able to tell us (or edit the post like they normally do). Either way, it's pretty obvious they weren't banned for the post that the forum software is linking us to.

But I suppose we won't be getting a mod response about this. That's what I liked the most about the Wild West; mods actually engaged with us...

I, too, would like to know. Mod transparency has always been an issue here.

That said, a requested self-ban doesn't necessarily imply that it got nothing to do with Mod issues or political biases.
Take StatusNil's requested self-ban for example. When one feel that it's only a matter of time until you've been pecked to death with a thousand cuts, going against the prevalent leanings, you tend to get fed up arguing against "protected" users.

Alright, as first moderator on the scene let me start this off by saying that all personal attacks on other users needs to stop now. For the moment we are allowing this thread, despite it technically being in violation of the CoC, but that does not mean that this thread won't be moderated if people can't keep it respectful.

For now, all I can say is that the mod team has seen the thread, we are aware of some of the issues brought up in here and we are discussing how to proceed with them. Until one of us replies here again, remember to stay classy.

This is dumb. You mods know nobody else is going to make threads, right? WolvDragon has nine threads between the first pages of GD and OT. That's 20% of non-sticky threads. You are just shooting the forum in the foot by permabanning the highest outputers of new topics.

The permaban is killing the forum.

I was wondering that myself, I mean like most here, I saw the post that got him banned, but couldn't see anything in the post that was worthy of the banhammer. Either he got banned for something else and because of a possible mistake, it got linked to that post instead of what may have got him banned or one of the mods abused the use of the hammer.

I'm pretty sure Ezekial did request his own ban.

It was less a case of him requesting it and more like he stopped giving a shit. It was in one of the threads for God of War 2018 were he argued with anyone who thought the game was good. It eventually came to ahead when Johnny Novogorod replied to one of his posts by being condescending as he normally is and sneaked in an insult at Ezekiel. At that point, Ezekiel just said "Fuck it" and gave Johnny a piece of his mind, not caring if it got him banned or not. Although to be honest, I sort of agree with what Ezekiel said about him.

It's a shame we lost Ezekiel, but WolvDragon had the bad habit of closing their treads when the discussion didn't go on their favor, so I'm not sure how beneficial those threads end up being on the long run. R&P has been getting more caustic lately too.

Could you give some examples of those threads?

The only one I happened to come across was him saying that X happened and then someone else saying that it was actually YX that happened, resulting in the thread pretty much ending as it was made on the assumption of X having happened.

That's how I read it at the time though, could be totally mistaken.

Well, I would have recommended the ?sanctuary? as a replacement to Escapist as it started off with promise, but unfortunately, it fairly quickly turned into yet another cesspool where people exercise their free speech for the sole purpose of being vitriolic assholes. Its myriad racist and bigoted thread titles lead me to believe this broken site is by far and away the better use of my free time if interesting, intelligent and/or casual discourse is the aim. That?s a worthy cause you?re ?stressing? over, Arnox; so glad you?ve created a place where ?because I can? trumps basic and common decency because we all know the worst of the internet have so few places left to be themselves anymore?

Yeah that's not a healthy way to run threads. Asking mods to lock your threads after people disagree with you hurts the site way more than simply never posting.

I kinda see where Xprimentyl is coming from, though I do seriously wonder why you have yet to tell a certain person on there to fuck off and just ban them. Cause if your site's "freedom" of posts allows the kind of crap I just read, then yeah, I'd rather be here. Dead as it is, I have enough shit in life to deal with without being in a place where someone can tell me to kill myself on some internet forum and get away with it.

Particular types of people aren't meant to have all the freedom in the world to do what they want, cause some folk are the worst kinds of "humans" on the internet just because it's anonymous and 'because they can'. I feel you're blowing the criticism you got out of proportion here. While I don't agree with some of the things they said to you, they still gave logical arguments to counter yours. Also, we are not actually a total free-for-all. We do have rules. People can't spam a topic nor are they allowed to totally derail threads. Among other things. Yes, they can call you a **** and disagree with you, but they have to say WHY you're a **** or else it's treated as garbage posting and the offending user gets smacked with an infraction.

You may not think that's an important distinction, but it is. The former is useless posting. The latter still contributes something. And though they may be rude about it, why does it matter? You don't even have to acknowledge their posts. And if we were to start punishing people for being rude, then I think we'll end up in much the same shape as the Escapist, rules-wise. The minute you start punishing people for being rude, you open up a huge can of worms, and even if your moderation is perfect, people still will not be happy.

An age ago, I was a teenager and I made a stupid thread that got worse over time and I got flamed for it. I was about to leave but other posters told me to stick with it. So I did. I stuck with it. And to this day, I'm so glad I did. And because I decided to grow up a little, I had one of the best posting experiences I have ever had. I got my reputation back and I became part of that community. And all I needed was some thicker skin.
