What would make up a perfect organism in terms of survivability, body structure, sociality, adaptability, anything you can think of, what would make up a perfect organism?

For me, I'd say a dead one, but that's just me talking, erm, typing...

Terry Pratchett proposed the cockroach, in The Last Continent, and you can see his point.

A bit short on self-awareness for my liking though.

You called?

But on a serious note there is no such thing. There can always be improvements. Furthermore, attributes that help in one category hinder another.

For example, 'survivability' favours simple organisms, the simpler the better. Sociability requires very complex organisms which dedicate a lot of energy to thought processing, necessarily meaning that their is less energy to develop other attributes.

For what environment? A woolly mammoth is very well adapted for frozen tundra, but it's not going to last very long in the desert.

I'd say humans are some of the most adaptable organisms so far, but if we're just going with whole kingdoms of organisms, then bacteria/archaea win hands down. They are by far the most successful form of life and are found in conditions no-one thought was possible.

im not quite sure if any species could be perfect but from a human view point id probably take the female form since it is the most pleasing to the eye, then i would tweak it for efficiency and versatility such as some sort of take on bird lungs, poison resistance like many bacteria, regrowth of organs maybe even better than lizards, connected nerves since electrical is faster than chemical, optional ability to completely control ones body, better time sense, rearrangement of some internal structures for increased efficiency such as the circulatory system and probably some extra organs for redundancy then id probably make them a hermaphrodite so that they could impregnate others and themselves so that even if there is just one they can survive

Really? Let's examine this

- survivability - I think we can put a great big red X here. It's dead by definition it failed surviving.
- body structure - well that's a ??? isn't it. The body structure of a dead organism is...undefined.
- sociality - X
- adaptability - X...although it would adapt nicely into "nothing" in a while. It would be practically immortal, if it weren't for the fact that it is gone.

So, I think your suggestion failed to pass your criteria.

Not to mention that the criteria are unclear. Ducks are better than bears in some regards, e.g., they can fly, but worse in others, e.g., they aren't bears. So if the criteria is "what makes the best duck", then the answer would be "ducks" but then again, humans are better than ducks in many regards. Only there are things that are better than humans depending on which context you use.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

The Zerg?

They're so good at what they do, that those zerg/protoss hybrids you see in story mode are lame by comparison.

Exactly. OT: I'm talking about an all-rounder. Something that could survive in all conditions...

Anaerobic bacteria.

Can't live without 'em. But they can live without everyone and everything else.

Am I the only one that accidentally misread the title at first? I thought it said "The perfect orgasm".

Anyway, I'm not a biologist so I really wouldn't know what would make a perfect orgasm organism.

I think that's obvious:

No such thing every organism has its niche. There is no 'over-species' just every species find a way to survive. Although several organisms change their enviroment to expand their niche so that might be a game breaker.

Well I can't say much without violating the code of conduct, but suffice it to say that it involves a bunch of LEGOs and a raw ham- oh, wait.

How about a unicorn with laser eyes and a Hitler mustache?

Besides me i would have to say Grigori Rasputin was probably the closest thing. The man survived getting a shiv in the gut causing his entrails to spill out, 4 shots to the back and being fed enough cyanide to kill five dudes. He was eventually downed by being bound and thrown into a river where he subsequently drowned.
