The Petition to Stop the Release of DLC Game Modes

This petition is for the gamers who are tired of spending 60 dollars only to fork over extra money a few weeks later to buy the "new" modes that were not included in the release (such as in the case of Halo Wars, Resident Evil 5, etc.). This is a dangerously growing trend in the industry, and I argue that this is an unethical process. Any mode(s) that is taken out should either be included for free post-release (similar to the recent Left 4 Dead update) or provide additional content that warrants spending X amount of money.

Note that this petition does not protest against expansions to games, such as Fallout 3 expansions or GTA4 expansions. This is protesting charging money for content that does not add anything new to the game other than a rearrangement of pre-existing content (such as adding the versus mode to Resident Evil 5 or new game modes to Halo Wars)

It really depends, if it's obvious that a lot of new programming has gone into a new game mode then I'll pay for it. But if its like Deathmatch -> Capture the Flag, then thats rather simple so I wouldn't pay for that.

DLC, at least paid, needs to shut down all together, except ones like Rock Band songs. To much crap is being released as DLC that developers expect people to pay for.

Petition with your wallet and don't pay for the add ons.

Doing so is basically bending over a (red exploding) barrel and saying 'here ya go, devvies, may as well make it easy for ya!'

The L4D content is free on PC, and would be on Xbox if Microsoft hadn't been dickheaded and refused to let it be free there as well. Leave Valve out of this.

I have a better idea than a petition...Dont buy DLC...The problem is that my idea doesnt seem to get to everyone and people still pay for DLC and Bethesda still releases Horse Armour DLC....

The L4D DLC is free for the 360.

Best form of protest against unfair DLC:

Just don't but it
Quoted for truth. This is the classic "Why should I have to pay for things that game companies don't want to give me for free" DLC bullshgripe with the classically pointless feature of a petition and needlessly specifying things to something that the number of instances of late can be counted on one hand for. I mean, what? Is this so incredibly threatening, that content you want NOW won't be available without more money? Games are still one of the best uses of entertainment money, and the contents are on the box. "No online multiplayer" = no online multiplayer, it's the game company's choice to provide as much as yours to say "I want it, I'm not buying".

Wait, no new game modes have been released to Halo Wars yet to my knowledge. But the Versus mode for RE 5 was a dick move, so I agree with your petition.
I made a thread about it. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.108688#1840135]

Anyway, wasn't the RE5 DLC just unlocking content that was already on the disc? That is indeed a dick move. With Halo Wars I believe that they're actually responding to fan requests for more multiplayer variety.

But I'm an optimist, what do I know?

EDIT: Also, at not buying it as a form of protest:

Indeed.

Sign all the petitions you want, no one will listen. Developers will continue to release DLC game modes and charge whether the content is on the disc or not.

Game informer touched on this when the whole DLC thing got started a while back. Talking about how EA would start hitting people up to put "air in the ball" for it's sports franchises.

See, for all of it's whining about piracy and how it's a victim, the game industry is about as crooked and messed up as an institution can get. If they find a way to gouge/pressure people into spending money they will. Releasing incomplete games and pay for the finished product, or games where you have to pay extra to unlock content already on the disc, is simply a way of gouging a customer base with no real defense. No politician, even if petitioned (seriously, not on a game forum) is likely to consider it worthwhile to campaign for legislature to fix this. Heck, the only political capitol to be gained from the game industry is to jump on the "OMG, games are too violent and sexy, and responsible for all the ills in society" bandwagon, where they can herd mindless sheep towards their level position during the next election.

I expect that since nobody has sucessfully organized a boycott of the games industry, the next step is to get people to pay for Patches. So that way they will released bugged games, but then charge you each time they *try* and fix it.

With PC games it's an obvious ploy on how it would work, with console games it's even more insidious. Just imagine you login and are told "You have been connected from XBL, you must install the patch to reconnect with this game." and then find out that the patch is going to cost you 1600 X-box points. :p

Just tell me where to sign.

Although I want to mention that I'm against downloading content if at all possible and prefer for as much of the content as possible to come out on the disc, it isn't as if they're filling these discs as it is. My console has a 60 GB HD and between a couple of DLC levels for a couple of games and a dozen indie titles it's full. I'd probably mind less if it came with 500 gig, but that's not even an option.

While i agree with your cause i find petitions rather pointless. If you want to get your point across with any company attack either their wallet by not buying their products or their associate companies. By the looks of it though, at least with gamers, getting them to boycott games is going to be quite an uphill battle.
Tis impossible. There is nothing we can do to change anything in the gaming market except get a job in it, otherwise keep spending your cash people.

I want to see an example of what makes them crooked, and how they pressure/gauge prices. They don't force you to buy the DLC, they don't force you to buy the game, they don't force you to play video games at all. So what makes them crooks?
