I think that the phrase should be revoked, and instead we sould be using the CLASSIC southpark line, "Can it READ?" for measuring the abilities of our computers.

Metro 2033. Dragon age 2 looks like shit and runs like shit due to bioware being shit.

Crysis 2 is decent but metro has more advanced effects.

My computer ran Metro2033 on max settings and 1920x1200 with no problems or framerate drop. but Shogun2 with Ultra unit size and in battles of 6000 units on screen or more, the game slows to a crawl when the battle starts.
You were running the game in DX 11 mode without turning anything down and had a frame rate always over 35 FPS?
hmm i might have been running it on Dx9c come to think of it o_O
Yeah, playing a game 'fully' kinda means the highest DX mode the game supports. But I am sure some will argue that DX 11 does not add enough to warrant the performance penalty.

Edit: Sorry that probably sounded nastier than I meant it, just a bit narked by the number of people who say they can run this game fully only for it to come out that they are running a sub 1080p resolution or a lower DX version. Had this conversation too many times.

Currently Metro 2033 takes the cake for me but when the dx11 patch for Crysis is released I think it will go back to being Crysis
Maybe, fingers crossed. But I am not too optimistic about a patch adding that much in the way of extra's, that were not there to begin with. The real test will be what tessellation support there is. Crytek are going to have to do something pretty special to get back the respect of the PC community. Not that I am sure they are that bothered about that communities respect while they are counting their console money.....

Crysis 1 is still high end, but the new benchmark is going to be BF3. DICE said themselves that they used the absolutely best that existed to make the game as high end as possible, and it's developed PC first, and then ported to consoles for once. It's practically a guarantee that it's going to be the best looking console game (It may tie with Uncharted 3), and it's extremely likely that it'll be the best looking PC game.

Shogun 2. My computer is low-mid range but can run crysis/2, metro 2033 and DA2 perfectly fine.
And again I ask, you were running the Metro 2033 in DX 11 mode without turning anything down (AA at 4x MMSA, tesselation on, Adv DOF on and very high quality setting) and had a frame rate always over 35 FPS? What kind of system do you have?

Unfortunately saying it can run Cyrsis 2 does not really cut much ice since nearly anything can since it is only DX 9. Hence the phrase 'can it play Crysis 2' not really being much use.

But can it run 3Dmark? and pass
Isn't the point of a benchmark to max out any system? Or am I missing the inherent sarcasm in your comment?

My friend can play Dragon Age 2 on standard ON HIS LAPTOP, its no test. But it struggles with Medieval 2, so Shogun 2 would set it ON FIRE.

Cryostasis or Metro 2033... but I think Cryostasis is more demanding. Probably due to bad coding or something because it's mostly full of small areas but with it all maxed out it really gave my PC a thumping.

I got it "but it can play Final Fantasy XIV" that thing requires massive amounts of horsepower to play well, my pc plays everything on maximum (AA varies) but XIV...it struggles to play well on medium/standard and on the benchmark it barely passes, it barely passed with my old 260 and it still barely passes on the 460, good enough replacement phrase? xD

You know that would work.. IF more than 26 people globally played XIV.

Perhaps it was just me, but I found Just Cause 2 to be a bit of a system hog. However, there is a reason why theres no standout title that outshines everyone else in graphics... No matter how quickly you increase horsepower, the true limiting factor is how fast designers are able to learn and utilize the technology.

Dude, guys.

Find me a PC that can run 'Hellgate: London" without ever experiencing a serious framerate hit.
Game was optimised like Constipation flows.

What part of "My computer is low-mid range" makes you think I can run DirectX 11?

And no, I can't run any of those games at super-max without encountering some frame rate issues, but my point was that, in comparison to all these games, Shogun 2 raped my computer. Shogun 2 seems to require considerably more computing power to run at mid-range graphics than any other modern game I own.
Or shogun does not scale down as well as the other mentioned games to systems with lower specifications. That does not make it a system killer, but a bad scaler.

"What part of "My computer is low-mid range" makes you think I can run DirectX 11?"

Perhaps, by you saying you can run them 'perfectly fine'.....

Battlefield 3 will probably be the next thing that's gonna be the main benchmark. Probably the only thing that's going to really push most PC's.

no sweat, that was a good point to point out. And i agree about DX11.

edit: forgot to add, Metro2033 maybe a good bench for your GPUs but as a game to replace the phrase in question, not going to happen. Plus Crysis only became the gold standard because Crytek boastfully dared players to build a rig capable of running it. Now that they've sold their souls to the console crowd, i doubt we'll ever see another company do that.

edit2: Rage should be a good bench I think, its been a while since Id came out with a new engine.
