Actually the PS3 is already in development and should be with use 2010 hopefuly later. Sony have announced that the PS3 live span is a minimum of 10 years... just something fishy about that.

Not really the PS one had a production run of 11 years. Playstation two is probably going to be able to pull off ten years just because of the existence of the Wii and the desire to compete in that market.

Are you sure you're not over-stating the PS3's power? I'm not completely convinced that when the 360 and Wii have games that are pushing the limits of what their respective consoles can do that the PS3 will be coping fine and begging for more.

It's more likely that because it's taken developers longer to get to grips with dev kits for the PS3, that when the said 'maximum performance' games for the other two consoles come out, the PS3 games released will be slightly behind.

One of the best deals you can get on the PS3, as a studio, is one about exclusivity; hopefully crawling under Sony's wing, hoping the console takes off as a gaming machine, not a spot reader, and thus be associated forever, if you're lucky enough, to a machine that is ought to do wonder in Japan and the rest of the world at some point.
Then comes the "image".

There are many drawbacks though.
i'm sorry, are you claiming that a game design company's greatest aspiration is be locked in to sony? as i understand it sony more or less takes over any company that designs exclusivley for it. and what you're talking about there is exactly whats wrong with sony. "we're sony, we're the best there is you'll pay through the ass for our shit and you'll love it."

I would like to point out that the 'true' way for a console to win the 'Console War', well at least for the X360 and PS3, are the software sales, as even if the PS3 hardware sells more, it all comes down to software. From what I've heard, both Sony and Microsoft sell their consoles at a loss, and hope to get that money back through software sales.
In short, who ever wins this 'war' is the one who sells the most games.

People tend to forget that Sony isn't just making the ps3 but all sorts of stuff so even if the Ps3 fails in terms of having plus on the balance, the money the earn on all the other products the make more than makes up for it.. i mean i have 3 things in my room thats sony, and thats just by coincidence!
