Want your opinion heard? Have questions for the staff? Now's your chance!

This week, staff will be dropping in and out of the thread to post responses to the question below and reply to yours. From there, feel free to keep the discussion going until next Wednesday when a new topic goes up. We may even respond over the weekend while we're playing Genre Wars [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/genrewars].

Consider this your chance to join us in some lively debating and hopefully good times. We can't wait to discuss.

This week's discussion topic: Alright, I know there are plenty of LucasArts and point and click adventure game fans out there. Let's get it all out in this thread. The games you loved, the sequels you want and the memories, oh the memories.

No sequels, you got that? No sequels. Remember "Monkey Kombat"? Enough said. The genre is dead. The talent has gone on to different companies, and the gamers at large don't care.

I remember a friend of mine got some unmarked disc thrown in with his Sega Saturn from some independant retailer. This was of course, years ago. He was told it was a demo version of "Discworld", but for some reason, it turned out to be the whole game.

Now, at this time, I must have been about 12 or 13, and the puzzles went straight over my head, but that was the first point and click game I really, really loved. Naturally, that lead me on to things like Discworld 2, Grim Fandango and the Broken Sword games. I also have a memory of something a bit hardcore called Phantasmagoria (sp?) on the PC which, I think, was a point and click game where you are trying to work out something to do with a serial killer... My memory is hazy on that one though.

Id really like to see point and clicks making a come back, or some particularly classic examples make their way on to Live Arcade or something. I even heard Monkey Island was making a comeback on live. Anyone know if thats true?

You have a real treat in store for you if you haven't played Grim Fandango yet.

I generally like all of the early LucasArts SCUMM games. I have a soft spot for Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders as well as liking the Gilbert and Shafer games. I actually downloaded an unofficial fan sequel to Zak McKracken the other day and plan on trying that.

Some other non LucasArts ones that I enjoyed are "Sanitarium", "I have no mouth, and I must scream" and "The Longest Journey."

As well as playing the McKracken sequel I want to replay and finish Faust by Arxel Tribe.

Are we talking Kings Quest here? lol. Thats what I think of when I hear point and click adventure games. That was the first game I ever played and I played my way through the whole series and the Police Quest series.. admittedly today I probably couldn't force myself to play through one of them but the memories are nice.. they were so damn corny. lol

The first point and click game I played was Toran's Passage for PC. It was developed by Sierra, I believe. I played it when I was 5. Other than that, I think I've only played Monkey Island.

But I wish I had played other games. It's a fun genre.

The Last Express
I too need to play this; unforunately it seems nigh on impossible to get hold of a copy nowadays.

Oh well; at least I've got plenty of ("new") P&C games to play over the Summer (Police Quest Collection, Space Quest Collection and Blade Runner).

I think Gametap actually has The Last Express in its roster. I'm assuming Gametap is still around. Otherwise, I know of no other way to get it.

Huh; so it does. I might have to try that.

Do you mean Toonstruck [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toonstruck]? That's yet another one I have to play.

Months ago? Don't you know the internet recycles discussion threads on a near hourly basis? I wouldn't be surprised if someone did this thread yesterday :)

That said, you've at least got to tell us what your favorite adventure game was.

Douglas Adams' Starship Titanic was my first point & click game. It's sort of like Myst.
It was incredible fun, but I had never read about Douglas Adams before, so I had no idea what I was playing was supposed to be as random as it was, as humor for the readers of his books.

-Friggen Parrot.

My first delight was when the Ship crashed through my house, and then a robot came and apologized for the damage, indicating there might only be a sratch of paint done to the vessel, so no worries.

I've still got my riginal Monkey Island discs. I replay the games yearly.
I just wish I could find Grim Fandango.

More amazingly, I found my third game ever (it's point & click). The original Prince of Persia!

Anyway, I'd love to see a return of point & click adventure games. They were fun and intelligently written.
