The Telltale Sam and Max games. Loved the stylized cartoon look of the games, the soft jazz soundtrack was perfect for the pastiche of American culture and weird things setting, and Sam and Max are an awesome crime-fighting duo.

Telltale games makes decent point and click adventures. I played through Sam and Max Seasons one and Two...

Anyone else been playing the sam and max episodes on XBLA??? quite good, they are
I played the demo today - have to say, I was quite dissappointed. This may be nostalgia clouding things (though I really don't think it is), but it pales in comparison to the Lucasarts game. The voices for Sam and Max aren't as good, and the voices for most of the other characters are soooo annoying. The story and jokes and environments just aren't as interesting. Glad I tried the demo before sparing the points for the whole shebang.

Well, apart from having played the obvious SCUMM games (I still find Curse of Monkey Island to be the best of them all, and the theme.. oh man, the theme is so awesome) and the Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People episode 1 through 5.. I've also played Death Gate.

Has anyone else played that? It has a well thought out story, and I was honestly shocked when I found out the truth about the necromancy practices.

I love Grim Fandango - I play it about once a year (there are a couple of games I do that for, Zelda:Ocarina of Time is another one) just for nostalgia's sake. It's just about one of the prettiest games I've ever played, despite the obvious deficiencies of the graphics engine it runs on (but really, who cares about graphics anymore...).

I would personally love to see a sequel to it, but if I remember correctly the guys who made it just aren't interested in it (in fact, I may have ripped that directly from the article about the game on this site, last year some time), despite the massive, almost cult-like following it has (http://www.grimfandango.net/). I can see where Tim Schafer (who has recently developed Brutal Legend) and the other developers are coming from with not wanting to create a sequel - the story arc of the game has completely run its course, and there's really no where that a sequel can go. I consider that a loss for the gaming public, but at the same time I could never bag anyone for maintaining artistic integrity in an industry that - to my eyes at least - so often seems concerned with making money rather than creating art (and yes, I know that is a douchebag, liberal hippy sort of thing to say but it would be nice to see a section of the industry devote itself to the creation of something truly great).

Another game I loved (and still do) was Monkey Island 3 (Curse of...?). Once again, really pretty, probably the nicest looking adventure game to ever be made. In my opinion this is where the franchise reached its peak, before deciding to go with 3D animation for Monkey Island 4. For me it made Monkey Island 4 unplayable - I just wanted Guybrush to be back in 2D!

PS. I still use Wonton Goodsoup and Guybrush Threepwood as pseudonyms sometimes.

I've seen [Dreamfall: The Longest Journey] in the Xbox Originals section before. Pretty sure you can still get it that way.
Sweet. Hope you enjoy it!
Well, after an all-night stint on it, I'd say I'm enjoying it. Was a bit slow to start, but once you got past her mundane life stuff (going to the gym?) it got pretty good. Reminds me a lot of several other games I've enjoyed, but not so much as to blatantly rip them off.

I'm nearly done, however. It's a much longer game than I anticipated.

Grim fandango is definitely the best point n' click adventure game that I've ever had the pleasure of playing... that said, i remember playing some "myst-like" game where you walked around in this haunted castle but, being seven years old at the time, i can't for the life of me remember the name of the game...

Grim Fandango is so great, I wanted them to like re-release it on the tenth anniversary but alas it was not to be, oh well. Now all I have to do is find a computer that can play it.

I downloaded it last year and got it to run on windows XP (all the cut scenes were super-slow and jarring, but everything else ran just fine).

I've only played Myst for a few minutes. I was more of a platformer boy in those days.

Off note* I find it a little bit odd. With today's Wii, I thought point and click adventures would make a huge comeback on consoles.

I really enjoyed the Discworld Point & Click game. I'm fairly sure that there was a sequel, but I've never played it.
There was a sequel. It was... Meh, fine.

i wonder if anyone here remembers or has even played The Neverhood. if not then you should really give it a try . its a clever point and click game just like Myst or grim fandango. it s ll in claymation and it is very very funny.

this is just a plain enjoyable game. play it, live it, love it. but only if if you can find it.
Neverhood had such charming graphics but the puzzle-solving was very lacklustre in my opinion.
I think the soundtrack was really inspired too, fit so well with the quirky tone of the game.

Oh, I still do love point and click adventure games. These days I mostly play freeware and flash-based ones. But they were pretty much the only games I played on the PC.

Shivers and Shivers II rank high IMO, because I always liked games with a creepy edge to them. 7th Guest and Myst were great (their sequels were alright too). I remember playing Clandestiny, which was humorously scary (and also done by the 7th Guest people), but not nearly as good as 7th Guest. I think I also liked 7th Guest and Shivers because the game disks also functioned as music CDs, so you could listen to the BGM and whatnot from the games. Shivers II's story focused around a band, so I listened to those songs alot. XD And 7th Guest's "The Game" is still a pretty good song to me.

There was Obsidian (weird but fun), and Titanic: An Adventure in Time where you played as a guy transported back in time to when he was aboard the Titanic, and he has the opportunity to prevent WWI, WWII, and one other war I can't remember. Educational and suspenseful! I was really interested in the Titanic at the time.

Bad Mojo was probably the first CD-rom game I played. While not technically point and click, it still fits in the whole puzzle solving thing. You're a guy who gets trapped in the body of a cockroach and has to make his way through his apartment building back to his body. You'd see some gross things sometimes (like a giant rat trapped in a mousetrap), and some moments were so scary and tense, like trying to get past a giant spider that would kill you unless you managed to use your tiny body to face a burning cigarette towards him so when he jumped at you, he ended up burning himself to death.

Loved Zork Nemesis. There was also a weird one called 9: The Last Resort, and had all the random celebrities voicing in it, like Cher, James Belushi, Christopher Reeves, and Aerosmith. Something about how your uncle (Christopher Reeves) had died and had left you his resort when artists and musicians would come to be inspired. I feel like the designers must have been high a lot of the time to make that game.

And probably the weirdest one of all, Bad Day on the Midway. You're at a carnival and can jump into different people's bodies and see their thoughts. The goal was to pick a person and try to get their to specific ending without getting murdered by the serial killer (you could play as him too), or dying from the Red Rat Plague that would eventually start killing everyone off. It was a rather disturbing game...

I did play Grim Fandango. It was alright; I don't know why I didn't love it completely. I played a bit of Last Express, but never quite got the hang of it.

I came into gaming with Point and Click long gone and long dead. I did actually play some Dracula game about it. Easy as hell. I ended up not killing Dracula.
