The Police are Ignoring me!

Early December last year I was involved in a road rage incident in some residential streets. A car in front of me was consistently traveling 20 KM/H under the speed limit and applying their brakes. Now normally I would do this sort of thing too if someone was right UP my ass but that wasn't the case.
So I decided to overtake at the first opportunity but as I was the other sped up and wouldn't let me. On the other side of the road there was an oncoming car and I was just narrowly able to overtake in time.
I stopped along the side of the road to yell at the three young idiots in their car who almost killed me. But wouldn't you know it, the thick heads simply got out of the car, spoke like bogans, and then proceeded to strangle me while I was in my car.
There were two witnesses on the scene who stayed. I called the Police and they didn't send anyone out because it was a 'Cold' crime. Fine... I went down to the station and gave my statement pretty much exactly how I've said it here.
Almost 6 months have passed and not a single attempt at contacting me has been made... I would even appreciate a simple "sorry but we don't think the assault is worth our time to look into". I've tried contacting the police station 5 times but they simply say "Sure we'll pass that message along" and never do.
I have completely lost faith in the law. It makes me think I can go murder people and steal cars and get away with it. What can I do to actually get an answer out of these lazy scum bags? Is there someone higher up I can talk to that will actually give enough of a shit to tell me my case isn't worth investigating?

Justice Indeed.

Damn dude, did you try calling the media? If the cops didn't give me a response I'd probably call my local station and tell my story and see if it gets attention that way.
Man gets strangled, calls police. Police do nothing but sit in station, strangling their chickens.

Maybe they would've gotten off their asses that way.

It's kind of your own fault that three guys strangled you, you did provoke them. If there's a dick in a car that you just overtook, you don't get out to "yell" at them that's insane. What did you think would happen when you yelled at them? There isn't much the police could do about it, if you had the reg of the car then maybe they could have followed it up. The police shouldn't have completely ignored you when you reported it. They committed two crimes dangerous driving and assault so the police should have done something.

1) I didn't get out.
2) You're advising never to stand up to a bully.
3) I do have the reg, 2 witnesses, and even a photo of the incident thanks to a witness (sorry forgot to mention). Also of course have make and model of their car.

You should report it to a newspaper. The police have no reason not to investigate if you have the details of the car and witnesses. You can stand up to bullies, but in circumstances like that it's probably best to let it pass. Standing up to a troublemaker is going to put you in a tricky situation.

It's generally advised to not stand up to a bully if you are planning on letting him throttle you inside your own car.

I'm sure there are far safer ways.

No, he is saying don't be an idiot and use common sense - three guys who don't care for road safety aren't going to be the most reasonable of people.

Why must my dislike of police be constantly reaffirmed?

I agree with the above posters. Contacting the media seems like a good way to go.

Edit: What's with all the people berating the OP? It's not like his response was hugely unreasonable. He almost got killed. He was angry and upset and obviously wanted to vent at those assholes. It might not have been the best idea but it was still understandable. Don't act as though he deserved to get beaten for that. The police are still obligated to fucking do something about it even if it was a slightly poor judgement call on the OP's part.

Uh why did you stop? Did you really expect these dick heads to care that they almost killed you? Did you expect any out come aside from getting strangled?

Sure sure, fuck the police and all that just... wow man, wow.

Seems to me you weren't seriously hurt (unless you left out a part where you had to go to the hospital), you instigated the incident, and it was an isolated one-off in any case.

Hard truth: If the cops didn't give a shit within minutes of it happening, they're certainly not going to care 5 months later. They've got real crimes to deal with. You can try sending your story to the media, but I don't think even they will care about a minor scuffle you got into half a year ago.

Be about your life, and take the incident as a lesson learned.

I'll give you some advice. Take a kitchen knife (actually any reasonably large knife will do), hunt the fuckers down and proceed to slash their legs, arms and face a few times. They will have then learnt their lesson.

You have no sense of justice. By your logic, if you saw a child being raped or a man being killed on the street, you would do nothing.

You've missed the point entirely, I don't care if this issue gets chased up. All I want is a common courtesy call explaining why it won't be investigated... and when you say "real crimes", define it? Every crime is a "real crime"... I know how the system works quite well, I have numerous mates who are cops and they are constantly complaining about the amount of paperwork and people they have to let down to tackle the 'bigger' issues. The point, therefore, is that the system doesn't work if 'small' crimes go ignored entirely.

In-fact most of you are missing the point. It isn't about the crime itself... it's the fact that no one has bothered to speak to me about this! A simple phone call... nothing. Not even an email. Asking for 15 seconds of someone's day to send an email makes me a whinging douche-bag does it? I'm the bad guy here? Please...

How low has our society fallen to assume the person who challenges the foolish behaviour of others deserves to be ridiculed? I guess we should all just turn our heads away from crime and just be walked all over by thugs... because that makes more sense... clearly... cowards.

What if amidst all that paperwork, the note that said "Call Jewrean, give him status update" quite simply got lost?
I've been to the police station 5 times over 6 months, each time I spoke to someone different at the counter. Even if the note had been lost, one of the other 5 people would have passed on a new message. One man even told me I hadn't even been put in the system (which meant the person taking my statement never even bothered putting it in).

I've been told waiting 2-3 months would be reasonable in these circumstances by a cop friend. That friend, like many of you, said to let it go and ignore it like the cops have. Isn't anyone seeing what's wrong with this picture?

Also, each time I met with them (all 6 times), someone told me that I would be contacted via Email or phone (I gave both every time I visited with no errors). They TOLD me they were going to contact me through one of these mediums each time.

Where in Australia?

There's always ACA or TT to take your call.
He may as well strangle himself before going on either of those shows.
No one with a brain cell takes them seriously.
