A friend of mine got a proper samurai sword the other day and we decided to test it out. Here's a nice wee vid.

And i was suprised at the damage it did. It still did you know decent damage but i was expecting you know instant destruction is one slice. Was I a fool? Is it the sword? (theres info about the sword in the link)? Or what? Is cheese not a fair test? Am i right to be confused?

Edit: Wow Wow Wow, some of you guys need to chilax. So here's a few replies to some of the flamers

a) It is reasonably sharp. I saw it doing damage here n there all night.
b) It was drunken tom-foolery, not a proper test or anything
3) Wow some of you have watched deadliest warrior, well done. Stop acting like what you saw on there is your own knowledge.
IV) Emos? Need a haircut? Fuck off. Geez. We are all gamers who get stereotyped all the time and now some of you want us to stereotype each other? What happened to unity? Seriously, if all you can post about this vid is how much you don't like our hair then just fuck off.
e) The kid is the lil sister of the house. During the cutting parts she was with bother her parents out of harms way.
6) We weren't overly drunk but oh well, shit happens.

A response to the people who arent flaming.
I appreciate your posts. While digging through all this shit when i got home from work, your posts made me smile. Some point you have made i want to add enthasis to.

Zen5887- Are some people really pointing out the'lack of form' of a drunk kid who got a sword for fun? Really?
Thank you, that is true, glare at the tea-totallers

Smokescreen - Next up, I expect to see Cheese vs Chainsaw. Let's go, internet, make this happen!
You know, i was joking but.... I think i will. With continued support, i definately will.

FranzTyphid (and a similar one from MacDonaldFin) - you sir are a pioneer of the sport known as cheese cutting
He is, and i like you lol

Julianking93 - Of course that's what Katana's are used for; to cut cheese.
It is in our house, thank you for having a sense of humour.

Some other assorted posts about battles on the cheese or adding armor were fun to read.

So in conclusion, please don't be a none constructive flamer. Your kind are the lowest of the low. I can take constructive critism but if your gonna be a fanny about it, just don't bother.

CHEDDAR VS CHAINSAW. I so will.

it's a sharp piece of steel, against a cheese.

what did you expect?

I think it would have done more if you hit the cheese with a bass, try that next time.

You're not a trained martial artist. You also used the Katana like a cleaver rather than edging your strike diagonally for more cutting power.

That being said, Katana's true strenght is in their flexibility and resistance to damage - ores are so rare in japan that they needed weapon who would not break often, hence the crafting technique. Their 'cutting power' is greatly exaggerated by movies, comic, games, etc... that's not to say they don't, but they most certainly do, but any more so than your average European or middle-eastern weapon.

Not to criticize, but his form is terrible. Make contact lower down the blade and pull through rather than chop straight down. Remember: Slice not chop. Also, what kind of cheese was it?

That Katana is wasted on him, but I suppose it's better than cutting heads off.

One of those daft things that make me laugh. Thanks for that.

You killed a piece of cheese with a Katana.

Your underestimating the powers of Katanas.

A real Japan made one should be able to cut through...Something thick.

considering I've seen swords chop through three pigs with one swing, I can safely say I'm not impressed with cutting halfway through a piece of cheese.

You say it like there's something wrong with that.

Well you are swinging it down on to a small object probably holding back somewhat, but also swords are not lightsabers, you dont just wack them into something and expect it to be cut into small chunks.

European weapons especially the longsword are far more awesome anyway, but that's another story.

You sir... Should be a character from a web show or something.. Always having something to say about the bass :p

Yeh, the samurai sword is probably one of the best weapons in the blade department... They can literally deflect bullets n stuff. Though the only downfall is.. No one has the ability of doing that in RL...

It was common practice in fuedal japan to test the strength of a new-forged blade on prisoners. For example, a two-body blade was one that would kill two people in a single swing. Sword-through-both-bodies-like-a-hot-knife-through-butter stories persist, but until I'm allowed to test it myself, I remain dubious about that particular bit.

While I'm sure good form helps and all, after watching that video, I looked around a little more; YouTube is full of retards swinging swords around like bats and cutting things just as impressively.

Yes. You are a fool. Katanas are not super swords. Also, technique is 99.99999999999999999% of everything you do with a sword, technique your friend did NOT have. =p

Exactly what I was going to say. Plus, is the sword even sharp? I mean "combat ready" sharp.
