Maybe one day this will all go full circle and we can get more Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Or maybe even Courage the Cowardy Dog.

The creator of Courage the Cowardly Dog has actually been trying to pitch a reboot to Cartoon Network, it would be CGI instead of hand drawn though. An excerpt from a pilot produced for it was uploaded earlier this year: http://vimeo.com/92096186
And Courage once again succeeds in making my skin crawl in terror. I gotta say though, the CG look actually kind of works, the voices though...not so much.

OT: I'm on the fence about a PPG reboot. On the one hand, the show was entertaining and it would be nice to see new episodes. On the other hand, what would they change? Different voice actors would make things confusing, especially since the originals fit their roles so perfectly. A different art style would just be a no-no, especially if they want to keep the feel of the actual show.

*looks at Teen Titans Go!*

Alright guys, I'm starting a heist crew. We have to stop this. Plan of action: break in, take the files, destroy everything. We're doing the greater good here.

I need:
1 hacker with a heart of gold
2 siblings (twins pref) with knowledge of explosives
1 Traitorous second-in-command
1 Muscle (pref also has a heart of gold)
1 Face
and 1 command and control specialist that can't defend themselves and is prone to being kidnapped, usually by the traitor

I enjoyed 'Dance Pantsed', the girls were still themselves and the new style was a cool take on the series. Definitely sounds like a better idea then changing 'Teen Titans', not that I hate 'Go' and kids seem to enjoy it, PPG's just seems like a better choice for rebooting.

I don't mind the reboot, as long as it is hand drawn animation. Nowadays many cartoons try going just plain CGI, and I don't like it. The CGI for the Powerpuff Girls especially, as the CGI didn't look good at all.
You're kidding right? The only reason they're doing this is due to the franchises brand recognition and the fact that the style will be easy to recreate on FLASH, no way it will be hand drawn.
You can still do frame by frame drawn animation in flash. Might not be paper but the artists can still use tablets to draw each frame.
I know but my point was that that's not what CN will do, it will be copy pasted assets, faster and cheaper. It's not the end of the world, MLP FiM does something similar (to the best of my knowledge) but over time they added more and more. The series may be clunky to start with but if it does well the animation get more varied over time... probably.
Ah, sorry then. I saw my own old bias concerning Flash's limitations for animation (before I worked on a project that had artists doing just that[footnote]Though they had to fight Flash every step of the way to make it work long enough to progress and save... that tool definitely wasn't made for classic animation, but it is possible.[/footnote]) in your post... Never fun seeing your own past dumb biases cropping up.

You will get no argument from me on PPG: Dance Pantsed That special sucked out loud. -_-

Nothing against reboots, but what's wrong with the original series? It still holds up to this day. It's definitely one of CN's classic hits and it introduced me to my personal crush on Tara Strong. ^_^

I highly doubt the reboot will be good unless they get Craig McCracken on this or someone who knows how the original show works. I just don't see that happening unless something says otherwise.

*puts head on desk and sighs* I miss the old Cartoon Network.

You mean the Cartoon Network whose best shows are absurdist parodies of characters and genres, where it's generally accepted that the best block of shows comes on at night? The same Cartoon Network that's always been filled with cheaply made garbage and retreads in order to get a solid 24 hours a day of programming?

CN's got 4 really good shows running with weakly prime-time releases right now. And even Johnny Test isn't as bad as... ugh... dark age of animation vintage Hannah-Barbara. You could say that the action block is MIA right now, and it's true. They seriously need something there. However, the CN ship has been righting ever since CNReal was nuked out of existence.

The reboots though, I have only seen one good reboot from the network, the Looney Toons Show

Have you ever watched Samurai Jack or Dexter's Lab or Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends? Hell, DC Animated's golden age came from Cartoon Network.

Granted, not everything that came out was golden (you will never convince me that Ed, Edd, and Eddy was good). What I'm talking about, in regards to old CN, is channel that it didn't have live action TV shows or shoved good shows into God awful time slots because it had no fucking idea what to do with it. It didn't straight up cancel a series because it didn't turn in ratings that could squash Spongebob. And it had the testicular fortitude to try something experimental without acting like it was a bastard child it didn't want (starting to think Steven Universe is currently on that boat).

It might not have been perfect, but at least the old Cartoon Network wasn't trying to get into a pissing contest with Nick or Disney just to reach the white male demo that has enough attention already.

Reads Powerpuff Girls reboot. "Eh, another "reboot" well hey it's PPG so it'll probably still be cool. I'll watch out for it."

Reads CGI. "Ahh fuck..."

1. DC's golden age came from Fox, made the jump to Kids!WB, and ended with JL:U on CN... after Toonami died
2. Fosters actually came when Cartoon Cartoons were dying, and it's outside of the original H-B contract that gave us the first set
3. Nostalgia's a ****, you don't remember the misses like Robot Jones
4. Clarence, Regular Show, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Flapjack, Chowder, and most of the good shows that came from Williams Street came "after the fall" (Sealab, Brak, et al were funny, but not what you'd really consider good)
5. Nick is a trash bin right now that's essentially the Family Guy of the 12 and under crowd, while Disney really only has two showponies right now (Wander and Gravity Falls). If we're looking at the Gen X/millenial nostalgia pandering, CN is really only competing with The Hub, which has an ample classic animation vault and the Pony juggernaut.
6. They fired the guy who wanted to compete directly with the networks in question, finally.

But really, there are some massive missteps from the network *looks longingly at Megas XLR* you were before your time *cries*

Man, I have such mixed feelings. That short wasn't very good. By any means. And I fear what a reboot of the series will look like. Something akin to the horror that is Teen Titans Go which spits in the face of what was so great about the original series? Also, will they still be able to get away with Him?

I can't help but fear that this is doomed to be crap. Maybe I'm wrong. The new TMNT series is actually pretty good. And the sadly short-lived Thundercats reboot was good.

I want Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup to come back and blow us away. I want them to be funny, sweet, adorable, ass kickers. I want to see some of the ridiculous adventures they get into.

I just fear that it won't be anything like that.

Is it my imagination or is the delay between "original" and "reboot" getting shorter and shorter? I think it's just a matter of time before a show reboots itself ten minutes into the pilot episode.

Also, sorry, Cartoon Network. We used to be cool, but until I get closure with Samurai Jack we're not on speaking terms.
There are still plans to make a movie. Genndy Tartakovsky has stated as recently as 2012 that he is still working to create a film as a conclusion to the series. No idea how things are going for it's production, though.

They also need to recast Aku as Mako died. Something that seems to be a major blow. Aku's voice was iconic!

A lot of folk seem to have hate for flash, which seems silly to me, why blame the tool? It's CN's decision to use the bloody thing.

Il lend you my muscle despite being a nerd im quite strong. :p

OT: Id really hate if they changed the voices also that would just ruin it for me as hearing them sound diffrent would be odd and god help us all if they remove the way Mo Jojo talks he would loose the charm we love :/

I think it would be smarter to show off the old episodes touched up a bit first to see if people even want the Power Puff Girls back. I would actually watch it again since I loved it back in the day, but being a reboot, I have lots of concerns. The CGI animation in particular. :/

"The special had no input from Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken, and "Dance Pantsed" felt rather mediocre."

i really liked the special and if they make new seasons with that particular style, i can totally get behind it

Power Puff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, hell let's fund that Samurai Jack Movie too while we're at it. It's hard to tell if I'm being sarcastic or not but at this point I'm not even sure myself anymore...

So we're going to start rebooting TV shows now. This is what it's come to. Just great...

I know it might be good. But I have a bad feeling it won't be.

I thought DP was alright, it had a promotional music video where animated Ringo Starr dressed as a Powerpuff Girl, that justifies it's existence right there as far as I see it.

Cautiously optimistic, it won't be the same, because how the fuck could it, but a new generation has the right to grow up with the girls!

Wasn't there already a reboot of this? I felt like there was a new version on cartoon network recently. maybe I'm wrong though. Either way, cool? It was a pretty good series for what it was, and I'm sure they could keep making them for kids. Great for its demographic and probably worth keeping at it.
