My PS3 used to be nothing more than a dust gathering paperweight.

Now its getting more use than ever and come Feb/March with releases like God of War 2, Heavy Rain and FFXIII (yes im getting it for the PS3!) its going to see more action than its used to.

Saying that I still love my 360 and I think XBL is awesome (the service not the online reprobates).

Wow... same old flame ridden garbage that always shows up in these threads...

OP: I think you'd have to be half-retarded to think that the PS3's XMB system is in any way better than NXE. Neither of them are very good but they're both serviceable, and if that's your complaint about a system you're obviously just here to nitpick.

Both systems have their merits, and when it comes down to it, get the one that has the games you want to play on it.... I just feel sorry for you PS3 owners that don't game on PC, because you will never get to experience the pure awesome that is Mass Effect 1 and 2.
you wonder why us console people thing pc gamers are elitists. read that post.

the PS3 is awesome. nuff said though i dont like the psn store.... its hard to navigate.
Umm... I'm a console gamer... I only said "don't game on PC" so that those PS3 fanboys with Gaming PC's don't get all up in arms... basically, if you're only a console gamer, and you don't have 360, no Mass Effect for you :).

While I'm one of the few Xbox owners who isn't very fond of Halo, I still like the games for the 'box' more than the ones on the PS3. Uncharted never got to me, I've always found Metal Gear incredible slow and boring. On the other hand I love the Gears Of War series, and would never even think of playing it on the pc. What I'm saying is, I love my Xbox. Havn't been a victim of the red ring just yet, and I'm glad to pay for live.

However I too think the PS3 will totally overshadow the Xbox within a couple of years, unless Microsoft brings us a new console alot sooner than Sony did again.

Also, the exclusive games for the Xbox are getting fewer and fewer, so even though I love my console, I have to admit that it's slowly moving towars insignifigans.
There's still plenty of exclusives coming, though some are coming on PC as well... check out:

Alan Wake
Crackdown 2
Mass Effect 2
Fable III
Halo: Reach
Splinter Cell: Conviction

There's plenty coming for 360 or PC.... PS3 is gaining ground by finally putting out titles that are worth playing, but they still have a lot of catching up to do. They may just pull even with 360 by the end of this console generation.

I am exceptionally happy to own a PS3 Slim 250gb and my Xbox 360 Premium 20gb. Although I use my PS3 more as of recently I can still enjoy some time on the 360.

But alas, I do think that over the next two years, the difference in the quality of user experience will widen further in the PS3's favour.

I got my PS3 first and I love it to bits. Personally, and without going into details, I find every single element of it (exclusives, trophies, XMB... I won't list them as I could go on forever) greatly preferable to the counterparts offered by the 360.

Except, well, I tend to play more 360 these days... solely because the one thing (for me, anyway) that the 360 does massively better is local co-op play. Just the fact that two people can both sign in at once, can both earn achievements at once etc. means that I tend to buy most of my games for 360 now so that my girlfriend and I can play together.

The PS3 has finally reached what I view as its tipping point in term of exclusives with Ratchet and Clank, both Uncharted, MGS4 & Infamous already out and Heavy Rain and God of War III on the way. Because of this I finally bought one over Christmas.

Dashboard-wise, give me Windows any day :). I prefer the PS3 as its more subdued and better laid out. The fact I can't use the back button to get out of it when playing a game like you can with the Xbox does get annoying though. Also, the Playstation Store is easier to browse through as well. I don't play multiplayer so that isn't a problem for me.

When I went over which games were the best of the year, I was hard pressed to find a 360 exclusive

Yet PS3 had Ratchet, Uncharted, Infamous, among others. Good Year for the PS3, Great year to be a PS3 owner.
You know, I was just about to flame you, when I realized that... you're probably right. Left 4 Dead 2 and Halo 3: ODST are the only games I played last year for 360 that weren't available on PS3, and neither are GOTY contenders. Dragon Age, Borderlands and Fallout were my favourites.

However, I think that with the upcoming Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Halo: Reach, Alan Wake, Fable III and Crackdown 2, that 2010 is the year of the 'Box.

they did make some improvements, covering the letters so you dont get an imprint anymore and adding a 2nd joystick. My main issue with the 360 controller is that i don't find the double trigger system in back is well done, with one being vertical and the other horizontal moving between them feels awkward.

But on the topic. it really comes down to what you want in terms of exclusives. I was far more interested in Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 than Halo. Gears is the only exclusive that i wish the ps3 had.I also had terrible experiences with XBL on my Xbox that made me reluctant to pay for it.

The 'ads on the dashboard' argument is one of the I have ever heard, letting you know map packs or demo's are out for games, I don't consider that advertising, I consider that fucking helpful. As for the console? Microsoft has yet to let me down, I got Windows 7 for free this year and I only paid 30 bucks for over a year of xbox live membership. My 360 has had absolutely zero problems and will be back in my room within a week, should it ever break. The controller is a gift from god, I dont know how I ever used a dualshock before but I definitely can't go back to one. I just cant live without the exclusives, they are just too good and I care too little about the ps3's exclusives.

I could do without the avatars and whatnot, but Xbox live is still where the best online gaming is for consoles. Plus, the Xbox 360's controller is, in my opinion, the best one ever designed.
this.

its the best controller by far, it fits perfectly into everyones (including mine) hands, and the joystick/trigger concave build makes it alot easier and you dont have to worry about slipping or bad timing

i wish there were two more buttons for ring fingers are something but otherwise love the controller better than any other controller made thus far

OT: ps3 as a machine rapes on the 360, however like people have mentioned the community and online play for the 360 is supreme, and for a while it had a ton of exclusives for it but ps3 is definitly catching up i'd say

I love my PS3, genuinely I do. I also love my 360. Couldn't do without both.

That being said, I finally found the first thing about the ps3 that is truly terrible.

My Ps3 is on hardline, so no problems, but my roommate uses the wireless to connect his ps3 to the internet, and it CANNOT stay connected during gameplay. Every game disconnects after no time. Turns out it has to do with port forwarding, but unlike the 360 (which just needs a certain set of ports open and is good to go), the ps3 requires port forwarding set up per game. First party games use one set of games, while third party use a random set. And it's like 8 entries on the table per game. That is rediculous.

He has looked online for a solution and can't find anything. There were a couple which we tried but had no effect.

You know, I think both consoles will have great exclusives this year. It's definitely not the year of the "box". It's more like a win-win for gamers in general.

God of War 3. Heavy Rain. White Knight Chronicles. Gran Turismo 5. Last Guardian.

Either way, the fact that PS3 has picked up the pace is good for everyone (what with competition being a solid factor in upping the ante on quality.)

It always comes down to personal preference in the end. I'm way more interested in the PS3 exclusives I've mentionned (though not really GT5... I'm not a fan of racing games) than the 360 ones (only have a passing interest in ME2 - Not really a Bioware fan [blasphemy, I know] Dragon Age was okay... pretty typical, nothing inherently wrong with it, just typical). It doesn't help that I'm playing DA:O alongside Demon's Souls which is absolutely amazing.

But, I can see how someone else may enjoy the 360 exclusives more.
Yeah, it's definitely all about personal preference, but I just feel that the 360 has some really big titles coming... while GT 5 and GoW 3 are big titles, they're also niche games and I don't think they appeal to a broad enough audience. 360 should win in sales in 2010, hands down.

The online system for the 360 is definitely supreme, but the community is better on the PS3 I find. I play CODMW2 on 360 and pretty much have to mute everyone. Either no one talks, or A: It's a 12 year old singing and screaming profanity, or B: Is some thug/prep wannabe doing the same. On MAG, ALL I hear is tactical chatter and people working together, or occasionally having polite and humorous conversations.
