If I'm going to get a small dog, I'll get a dachshund. But yeah, I thought this was going to be a topic about all the rage that is generally induced by pick up groups.

I know, sure my sister has a small dog now, and it is really cool, not like most small dogs :)

Captcha: take it all..... weird :p

I have Dachshunds, but don't let the size fool you. They ARE hounds. Working hounds. Killer hounds. Rawr.

Oh and I have a small mutt. She is super fuzzy.

I have a Golden Retriever. A breed that's supposed to love water, and he's terrified of the tiniest streams you can imagine. He's also pretty lazy, but he does make a great lap warmer when you're watching TV or playing games.

but you'll never be as cool as this pug is.[/sub]
Pfffffs. Too tiny. This right here is more dog than that thing.

I got this picture of the net, I don't own a Savannah cat, sadly. They are insanely expensive. And just as large as they are expensive

Anyway, IF I ever were to get a dog, it would probably be a Siberian Huskie or similarly huge dog. Sadly I'm not active enough to fullfill the needs that such breeds have so I will never get myself a dog. I make do with less expensive but still huge cats!

Agree with this.

OT:

I hear they get breathing problems due to the flattened noses. Personally id prefer a border collie. Ok, thats a lie....my dream dog would be a Tamaskan.
Yeah, they get a whole host of problems because of inbreeding to get particularly stupid traits:

The bit about deformities is at around 0:30.
That program isn't the most neutral source, but it's worth a watch. It caused a real backlash against the Kennel Club in the UK (the Kennel Club are a pedigree dog certifier). I'm not sure if there are similar problems elsewhere, but it seems probable.
The rest of the film talks about a lot of other pedigree breeds that suffer various problems due to perverse breeding schemes.

I'd always get a dog from the RSPCA [http://www.rspca.org.uk/home], but if I had to buy one, I'd get one that WASN'T certified pedigree.

OT: I like German Shepherds; one of my dogs is a German Shepherd/Doberman/Collie/Fuck-knows-what-else cross, and the other one is a slightly more straightforward lab/collie cross!

Edit: video reference fix

Are you my eight year old sister in disguise? She's obsessed with pugs to the point where she claims she want to be a "pug breeder" when she grows up. On topic, I agree that pugs are the most awesome breed of dog around and anyone who disagrees with me is in denial ;-)
I'm afraid I'm a full grown person!

I've never owned (probably will never) a pug, it was just my avatar so thought I'd roll with it. I own a german shepard multi mix (Nicest way of saying mutt, lol) myself and there's nothin' like wrapping your arms around a big dog!

I also own a multi-mix, she's this weird burnt orange colour haha.
I always (try) to get my dogs from pounds, I do hate that people pay thousands of dollars for 'pedigree' pets when there are perfectly healthy dogs in pounds and shelters.

Eh, personally, I'm not a fan of purebred dogs, due to the health issues.

And pugs always look so sad. And when they're happy, they look creepy. So no pug for me.

Not a pug, thankfully:

One of three Jack Russels that I have, this one is called Harvey.
I got bit in the face by a jack russel a few years ago.

I think they are vile and hateful creatures that need to be kicked until dead disciplined into being nice and cuddly.

LIKE CATS!

Chess says "Hello Harvey, would you like some tea?"

Pugs do rule, but I have a maltese and a sharpay(sp?)-pitbull mix.

And they are as awesome and cute as the day is long.

Pugs... They got beaten by the ugly stick a few too many times. Besides they can't even bark, they're not proper size, and... they look derp. *hides behind Shepherd wall*

Yeah, it does seem a bit.... decadent, doesn't it?
I can understand people wanting a particular breed (doesn't bother me personally, but I can understand it), but I really don't like the smug obsession of some people [http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/] with having a dog that's 7 generations pure breed or whatever. It causes so much harm, and it's really arrogant.
Once, I got into a shouting match with some ***** who claimed that I didn't have "Proper Dogs" and should apparently have taken them somewhere else to walk them (I was in a public park). Needless to say, I told her to fuck off.

Really sorry to hear that, though I would be inclined to say thats the fault of the owner for not giving the dog proper training. :(
