The shriveled goblin peeked out of the waste-bin he was hiding in to see the half-orc barring the door the guests had entered through.
The giant manor lay before the small creature lurking from the dark. Its massive doors and windows did little justice to the giant sprawling mansion that lay behind the front entrance.
How many had entered? How many would exit the goblin thought to himself. Clearly something sinister was going on behind the scenes?.

Welcome (Mister or Missus)!

You have been invited to a celebration of sorts. A party, yes? A lovely party! You and a few randomly chosen individuals have been selected to participate in a task of sorts. Call it a quest if it please you. This is going to be quite fun if we can get the support of rough and tumble adventurers such as yourselves! There will be entertainment and refreshments aplenty. We hope to count you among the attendants.

Lord Reginald Quarry

P.S. Please RSVP with ?

Synopsis: Hello there Escapists! I?ve recently become addicted? I know what you?re saying and if you?ve deciphered what it is by the above text then kudos to you my friend, but I am respectfully referring to D&D 3.5. I was wondering if any brave adventurers would be willing to try a D&D style RP, it shouldn?t last long. But if all goes well I might be able to create more adventures if the community responds.
What I?m proposing here is a simple whodunit, with traps and back-stabbings aplenty. An intricate story narrated by me and participated in by you with your Role-Playing, we?ll have a fun little D&D adventure.
Some rules are in order I believe, so they would be as follows.
1. Don?t take control of the game from the Dungeon Master. (IE: I describe a simple room with a small barrel and flickering torchlight?. ? and you being the player run over to find the dragons lost treasure worth a million gold pieces in the barrel.) If you want to find something tangible in the barrel, that?s fine, but make it within reason, a teddy bear or mug, things like that. Sometimes DMs can reward subtlety?.
2. Don?t take control of other characters
3. You must be willing to accept death?. (I expect very few of you to make it out alive, and if you do the dice were truly in your favor.)
4. Be flexible. The story may not go your way, or I may neglect certain characters at points whilst someone is being murdered or etc, but I want you all to have fun, and I?ll try my hardest to make it enjoyable. Even for those who perish along the way.
5. Worship the dice! I as the DM will be rolling for some certain things, not publicly, but privately. I?ll contact you all personally with the results of your roll ( Did you avoid the spike trap in the floor, Is the knight behind you coming to life, Did you fall on your face from a third story balcony?) These and many questions will be answered spontaneously throughout the game. It may seem cruel, but know that it?s only the dice.
So sign up boys and girls, that is unless you?re scared you can?t make it out alive??

Few questions:

#1: Can we only be the races described, or are you willing to let us be other races within reason?

#2: What level are we starting at?

#3: Are other classes allowed or just the ones listed?

Ahh we meet again Drmigit. Or should I call you Acast Che?!?!?

To answer your questions.

Just pick from what I have there. I want to keep it somewhat small, and would like to have one of each. To avoid duplicates I'll cross classes off once they're chosen by a player. So if you're interested I would say pick your class fast.

As for levels, there will be none. It's going to be similar to the serial killer games in the Role Playing Forums.

When people enter a room, I'll say you see blah blah blah.. You can Role Play with the fellow characters as you explore the house. They'll be traps and dice rolls, but nothing in the way of D&D stats and abilities.

Was there a reason Paladin was left out?

Sounds like fun.

Name: Asiai Areneth

Race: Human

Class: Fighter

Preferred Stat: Strength

Bio: Asiai was born to a large, rich, successful, and most importantly traditional military family in Greyhawk. According to the tradition of the Areneth family, one son or daughter is sent to become a priest of Pelor, one is sent to join the Greyhawk Navy, one to the arcane academy, and one is sent to join the Greyhawk Army. They only ever attempt to have 4 children. When her parents set about having a 4th child, they were gifted with twins. Asiai?s oldest brother, Arenkos proved to have immense arcane potential. Her oldest sister, Adriana, had joined the Navy before she was old enough to remember him. Her 2nd brother, Atarom, was already training to join the army by that time the twins were born. She and her twin brother appeared destined to battle for the family?s church position. The fight was ended when her brother Arkantos proved to be gifted with the miraculous powers of foresight gifted to Oracles of Pelor.

The Areneth family had no tradition for a 5th child, and could not hope to find a calling for Asiai. So Asiai chose to find her own. She took what money her family could grant her and left Greyhawk to find a different path, one which would distinguish him from his siblings. She could not compete at arcane knowledge for fear of comparison. She had already lost the fight for Pelor?s grace. Her only option was through martial prowess. If she could not fight for Greyhawk on land and sea, then perhaps she may transcend the goal of fighting for Greyhawk and fight instead for another, greater cause.

It was in these days of struggling that Asiai happened upon a wounded soldier returning to his home from a battle. Asiai chose to help the poor soul home to Lastwall. When they arrived, He discovered the man was a warrior sent to repress the forces of Izu. The man was named Keine and was a marshal for the Order of the Dragon, an order of knights dedicated to fighting the forces of evil for their comrades in arms. Asiai was elated. Here was the group fighting for something greater than themselves or Greyhawk. When Keine asked what Asiai should like as a reward for helping him, Asiai pleaded for Keine to train her in the ways of the Order so she too might fight for honor, both personal and for her allies. Keine agreed and Asiai?s training began.

The training took years, but by the end, Asiai had mastered the art of war. Keine then offered his final challenge to Asiai. He ordered the young knight out into the world that she may grow stronger through battle, spread the honor and name of the Order, and become the knight she was destined to become.

Mundane Item: TBD

One other question, how will weapons/armor work under the 1 item under 10gp? Are they just assumed or... what?

I assumed Greyhawk for the backstory stuff; if you have a different world, let me know and I can change names. (it started off as a Pathfinder character so I already had to do it once >_>)

Well, the thing is, it's important to know what level spells a wizard could cast for example. It wouldn't matter AS MUCH for the rest of the classes, but any spellcaster needs to know what level spells he/she can use.

I,
Keal Brathen
a glorious member of the
Human
Empire accept you invite. I work as a
Ranger
and I would be willing to make a bit of a show. I have great
Dexterity
and I train often with my bow. I hail from a small town that specialized in hunting and trapping. I am a rather nice hearted man, but if something would favour me, I'd take it! You know it, we all would! I have practice with a blade, but often prefer the practised and precise bow oven the brutish melee. However, I do find sword and rapier fighting very noble and such, but I simply do not have as much skill in them. To show all what a true Ranger can do, I will be bringing my
Shortbow and 10 arrows
I will arrive as fast as my horse can carry me,
Keal.

OOC: I often DM a large group of D&D 3.5e players, so this looks like fun. I hope you forgive me for not going into GREAT detail of my character, but after all, we are going to be stuck in a manor and we really don't know much about the world, so knowing my exact hometown and where my family moved to and how my brother died isn't really all that essential. If it comes up in the RP for some reason, well, improvisation is the key to D&D.

Lil_Rimmy has the right idea. I guess I should specify a little better.

This game is going to be text based mostly, and as far as game goes, we aren't going to be playing D&D for real, just using the dice to make some puzzles come to life. This will avoid me simply saying: "Oh you walked into THAT room, well you're dead in that case."

There's no need to flesh your character out like you would in a normal game, but creativity never hurts.

To address Drmigit: We won't be casting spells, if you were to pick Dexterity, you would be agile and nimble, and perhaps avoid the spikes falling from the ceiling. I'll be making all the rolls myself. Your item might protect you from danger as well. If I know you have a torch, a dark room may become illuminated, and so on and so forth. There will be no combat persay, or anything of that sort. Just an RP for people who enjoy D&D.

For categorizing purposes as of now we have

Lil_Rimmy: Keal Brathen - Human Ranger

Hiei82: Asiai Areneth - Human Fighter

so ranger and fighter are off the table, and yes I'm sorry, Paladin IS up for grabs!
