I find the world is just begging for new genres, 'cuz the ones we already have are picked to the bone.

So, I challenge you guys to 'invent' new types of genres. Combine, pull apart or make up new types of games!

P.S. While you're at it, create a name for the game who will have this new genre.

[EDIT]: Oops, almost forgot; My new genre is called HMC; HighMotion Combat. A fast-paced action game with subtle use of quick time events. The name?

Survival Horror Fighting Game. I think Dead or Alive would work well for this sort of genre (sadly it's already taken).

Survival Horror Randomly Generated Free Roaming Role Playing Game

Or SHRGFRRPG for short.

It'd be called "The Day After Yesterday; The Day Before Tomorrow."

If inventing a new genre was easy, then I'm sure more game developers would have done so already.

So basically you play as a juggler on a unicycle right, and you juggle all of the weapons you fight with, like knives or mild explosives. The juggling requires constant button inputs and a seperate button to throw the weapons while you fight hordes of enemies, but the button inputs have to be just right, press too hard or too fast, and you drop everything you're juggling.

I call the genre, COntext Sensitive Juggling Action, or COSJA for short. The game? The Ring of Death.

They did. That's why we have First Person Adventures, Psychological Horrors, Lightning Bolt Action, and so on. Come on mate, contribute!

Second person shooter... Cos it would work?
(probably not)
um... I guess 2PS has it's field of view either from a character's shoulder(with the neck and upper arm visible) or right on top(only seeing teh dude's hair)?

I dunno, it sounds intuitive.

The reason you never see second person gameplay is because it's a usability NIGHTMARE. Essentially, you have to play the game without any control over the view whatsoever.

A bit like the original Alone in the Dark then? Damned changing camera angles when you least expect it!

So its just a rail shooter then.

Frankly the only new genre I can thihnk of involves us developing technology to hardwire ones motions to in game. So you have to hold the sword, thrust the sword, parry with the sword. Unforutunately sword play would be very hard because one could just spam swinging wildly and almost always win due to the fact you can't actually stop a blade controller with another blade controller, so blade locks are impossible. Or at least very difficult.
I dunno. Would be awesome though- skill actually would matter and such.

Time Travel games as a genre.

Steam Punk games as a genre.

I miss the real Cyberpunk game for Sega. :(
(Why do they keep taking good games and make them into fighting games or shooters?)

You mean a game featuring Mecha's?
(Well, fighting games and shooters is all they're actually good at.)

I've always wanted to see a zombie game that takes places much later after the the initial breakout. Like that movie Land of the Dead where the undead have taken over the world and there are pockets of survivors in walled off areas of cities or in protected compounds. Humaniity is no longer the dominating organism on the planet yet continue to survive by making communities of various sizes and using various resources. You could play as a character whose job it is to go into the "red zones" or infected areas looking for supplies and stuff. Throw soome nice gory action and give it a good story, I think it would be great.
