Silly Texans! When will you ever learn!? Lolololololol.

.....

Sorry, I'm an Oklahoman. We're obligated to make fun of Texas any chance we get, even if we know it's not justified.

Texas is actually a great state with an unfortunate reputation for crazy conservatives that, thanks to the sheer size of the state, always manage to pop up. I'd say it's actually the most liberal state in the South.

If you think Texas is bad, you should see the shit my state tries to pull. Look up Sally Kern.

I'm sorry in advance.

As a fellow Oklahoman I must say I disagree with your assessment that Texas doesn't deserve the shit they get.

I'll give them credit for this though they make us look better in comparison most days. Well that and they can actually keep a highway in decent shape.

Actually it makes sense. You deny a greater crime by admitting to something else terrible. You say something you'd never otherwise admit, to prove to everyone else your innocence.

Not that any smart juror will buy it, but a dumb one might... And that's all it takes.
Except, well... Back in slave times, when a rich white slave owner denied fathering mulatto children....
True, but because of the rights differences, they often got away with that. In our more equal society, no smart judge would let that slide.

And slave owners still always raped their slaves, racist or not.

Well to be fair, to me it seems like such a stupid defence that someone who was desperate or otherwise felt that their innocence was not solid wouldn't risk using it. As in you would think of something smarter if you thought you actually had to depend on it. But that's like going full circle and then some, at the more basic level maybe the person is an idiot and thought that alone was a reasonable point to make.

And you know texas ... So it just might work . Someone file this under , " it's so stupid , it just might work ".

OT: i really hope this doesn't work . Imagine the consequences . The next guy to go to court for rape might just say he's gay in hopes to get off scott free .

Edit: i just realised , this confirms my prejudice about texans being racist . I'm black and i recall ( at least in canada ) that a lot of black people wouldn't dare set foot in Texas out of pure fear . Now i'm sure not all of the things people say about texas is true , but i'm sure as hell not going to set foot there to find out .
Texas isn't too bad really, it's the states around Texas you need to watch out for. Like a town in Georgia that still has segregated proms because mixing races is all icky I guess.

OT: Yeah I doubt that defense will work, either way she loses her job because I doubt a school will keep employing a teacher who publicly admitted to being so racist they'd refuse to go near any black students.

It would seem a lot of people didn't read the article because she was placed on administrative leave immediately after the complaint was filed and an investigation was begun. As a result of the investigation, she has already been fired.

I'm not black, but I've gotten much of the same impression as you. Taking into account what other posters are telling you, I'm just going to assume that Texas has a population that doesn't do a very good job of policing themselves. I'm from Seattle, and if you even breathe a word that could be taken as racist by some one else, you will be told to cut it out. Honestly, I think it's too far in the other direction, but it's still a good thing, because I've grown up with racism being nothing more than a dark joke you tell your friends than an actual force of unwarranted hate.

All it takes is a claim for the school to drop you. She's already lost her job and possibly the employment of anywhere else. At this point, I can see reaching for straws. She probably already talked to a lawyer and the lawyer probably already told her it might help. Maybe she's trying to build up a case, no matter what it takes because no-one wants to be imprisoned from a 'he said, she said' case.

This reminds me of how Crassus got out of the charge of trying to screw a Vestal Virgin by claiming he was only after her property the whole time.

But yeah her career is effectively over now so at this point its pleading to a lesser charge to avoid a more severe social stigma.

Black's won't set in Texas out of fear of racism? What they'll think they would get shot or something? Stupid ************'s, that shit won't happen unless you go towards the shittiest neighborhoods, which would mean going towards a black neighborhood. Take it from a Black American, you have nothing to fear from white America, at the worst you'll get called a ******, the rare types will kill your ass because your black. On the other hand, 5% of Americans happen to get majority of the homicides, and they are black, take note black america is 13%, no one can't do shit because of the race card. Funny as fuck and sad at the same time, but mostly funny, might be why I like conservatives on race politics than liberals. Also be careful of political correctness, if you are called urban or youth, that is PC for ******. But yeah come on down to Texas, seems fun.
Aaaand , this is why i won't step foot inthe US . The worst case scenerio of yours is bad enough for me .

Very true...but then, is being a racist going to get you in that much hot water? It's not like it's rare.
That's called projection. Generally speaking, people are too busy just making it through each day to bother with a systematic hate or oppression of an entire people. On the other side of that coin, comments like yours suggest a more casual racism, and that's a personal problem I am unable to help you with.

And yes, being "outed" (I can't think of a proper term: Revealed, discovered?) as a racist will severely limit things like job applications, jury selection, court-room testimony (which is why police jobs honestly try to keep from hiring klan members in larger cities)and other non-criminal things as such. What you won't do is go to jail for it. Freedom of Speech still exists, somewhat.

I guess it makes sense, from a logical point of view, to admit to one crime to get an alibi for another crime.

We don't really like to admit that that happened either, outside of the US at least. In the Islands, if you have good hair or light skin you just say you had Native American blood in the family or something along those lines (not in my case though, my mother's side is part Irish).
