Listen guys, the game'll be worth the wait. It's going to be mind-blowing. It'll redefine the gaming experience! Alot of people are upset that it's taking so long, but we just want it to be the best possible. We're incorporating alot of technology that hasn't really been used to give an entirely new view on games. I can assure you that it will be worth the wait.

Wishing you all the best,

Finished Half Life 2 EP2 today coincidentally, good ending by the way.

OT: It's new to gaming as far as I know, something like this relates further into the real world and how communication isn't always sound, It should add to the immersion of an already engrossing game... More power to them, take as long as you need in perfecting what is a hard act to follow.

Everyone knows the real reason why Valve takes so long to develop games is because Gabe Newell eats their content servers when he gets frustrated.

This sounds like something you would read on The Onion. If this isn't satirical, then the employees of Valve need a serious lesson in time organization.

...Yeah good one valve
Text is cool too, we were fine with that till the ps2 era
You know what else is a good one? Actually reading the article. Thats a good one.

On Topic:
Sounds pretty interesting, and its good to say they are willing to to try something new when they could (with all the brand recognition they have) easily release sub-par Ep 2 clones and still make a stack of cash.

What I find more interesting though, is that they actually take the time to make this technology animate properly and accurate in terms of the sign language.

I did read the article and I still think it would be unnecesarry, but then again I see sign language as a whole to be pointless because you can just use text

Bwah...?

Lets clarify. Valve are not including sign language as a means to reach an audience of deaf people. That is not what the article, this thread, or Valves' aim is about. Signing will appear in Episode 3 as a game-play mechanic and a plot point. Its because
From the article you read said:
"[Valve wanted to] further the animation technology implemented in the Half-Life games."
Lets say it together:

"Valve is not replacing subtitles with sign language for the sake of hearing impaired customers."

I'm also not sure what you meant by "I see sign language as a whole to be pointless because you can just use text", but I'd ask why do people use their voices? They could just use text.

[Alyx] had a crush on someone who was hearing impaired, so she taught Dog how to sign so she could practice. Something happened, maybe, the person is off fighting the Combine someplace else, but that's why she and Dog would start signing with each other when they wanted to communicate without making noise, or communicate without other people knowing ...
How does anyone at Valve expect something with 3 fingers to do sign language?

THREE!

There must be more to it than that? Really, I mean how long can it take to program a character to 'speak' in sign language.
Of course this isn't the REAL reason why it's taking so long. I'm just making light of the situation. I don't really think this is why the DLC is taking so long to come out lol. I think some people in this thread didn't catch that though.
Alright, fair enough. Irony doesn't always come across great in text form.

No I meant for Aylex to use text instead of sign language. Oh it doesn't matter I probably won't be buying it either way but I don't see the point insgn language when only a handful of people understand it and text is just as good

One of us is missing the point here terribly. I'm not sure who it is, so I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.

If I could be a cheeky bastard and interject I'd point out that out there in the hellish dystopia that is the Half-Life universe, Alyx and dog might not be able to bring their notepads and pencils everywhere with them.

Might be me because I am extremely tired, I will re-read it when my brain is back online

It's cool to see Valve's level to detail, but it's a bit annoying because it means we have to wait longer for HL2:E3. But it'll be rewarding to play the finished product.

Now, I just have to learn sigh language so that I can follow along...
