Hmmm, a lot of those titles seem before my time so to speak. The only game I have from that list is Empire Earth, which if it's the song I'm thinking of then I certainly agree it's a good one.

I'll post my own list because, well, made a similar(ish) thread earlier in the week. My list isn't in order.

Tomb Raider - Menu Theme (Playstation)
Klonoa: Door to Phatomile - Baladium's Drive (Playstation)
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil - Cursed Leorina Theme (Playstation 2)
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil - King of Sorrow's Theme (Playstation 2)
Halo Wars - Insignificantia (Xbox 360)
Kirby's Dream Land - King Dedede's Theme (Gameboy)
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising - Lash' Theme (Gameboy Advance)
Advance Wars: Dual Strike - Black Hole Tag Power (Nintendo DS)
Crash Bandicoot - Cortex Boss Music (Playstation)
The Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time - Song of Storms (Nintendo 64)

Similarly I have only the one current gen title on that. Well, unless you count the DS too, then I'd have two out of ten.

That;s the nature of top ten lists. They are instantly controversial because every list is different. What I consider great songs, you might not. What I would consider my top ten music tracks:

The lack of any of Street Fighter themes up in here is upsetting.

Actually, just Capcom tunes in general...

This is probably my favourite game tune though, as far as over the top guitar licks go

Glad to see Curse of Monkey Island, Zork Nemesis and Civ 4 here.

Not sure why you picked Neverhood, I never like that game much or the music.
You could have gone for The Dig but there may be a thing as too much Michael Land.

It's also a bit suspicious that you only picked "good" games. Surely if it's about the music the picks would be equally distributed across the good and the bad.

How the hell is Monkey Island behind Dawn of War II (questionable if the latter should be there at all)? :p

Deserves a mention.

you don't have the mega man games (especially the original NES series and X1), final fantasy or the original quake.

I mean...there's a reason most of the top ten tracks in gaming is full of JRPGs...that's mostly because all the best music comes from those games....and MGS

Yeah, I mean both Final Fantasy and MGS need some love in this list for having some truly amazing pieces of music in them

Songs that are better than yours because I say so and clearly my opinion is superior to yours because it's mine (just trying to play by the same rules here):

Magus' theme from Chrono Trigger
Celes' theme from FF6
Pretty much the entire sound track for Secret of Mana
Skyrim's main theme.
Pretty much all the songs from Mass Effect 3's sound track.
Numerous songs from the Koei "Warriors" games.

Disagree? Too bad, you're stupid and have bad taste....and you smell bad.

Wow, it's easier than I thought to be an opinionated prick. :)

And this is the reason I never create "Top X Y of all time" lists.
That's the thing with list's, they're subjective, and not only based the creator's preferences, but also the creator's knowledge.
But fine, I'm not telling you to stop creating lists, do as you want.
However, using "My top 10 game music list" or something similar is better than "The Real Top 10 Gaming Music".
I listened through a lot of the songs here, and I have to say. In my opinion, there's lots of better music from games. For one, I can't see why there isn't any Touhou here, but that's just me.

I just think it would be better for all people actually studied game music before they made lists. "I really like this game, and I think the music is great, there fore it must be the best music ever" isn't really a good reason to make a "best ever" list.

Nice top 10 list, however music is definately personal preference more than anything. Here is 10 random pieces of music from games with no particular ordering. Wow, these nostalgia glasses are great!

There is no Chrono Cross. Your list is invalid.
Victory in the first response. This is what I like to see.

Edit: hmmm, so I was too anxious looking for a mention of Chrono Cross and missed the slagging of newer games' music, so I'm put some good ones...

Say what you will about the game, but soundtrack is killer.

I wouldn't put them in my top 10, but I probably couldn't make a top ten without changing my mind every step of the way anyway.

Props to the guy who posted a Wild Ams track, I used to love hat. The opening piece with the wild west overtones... Ooh, gives me the tingles, so it does. I'd also like to cite the OST of the first Silent Hill, for being creepy, haunting, horrible and brilliant. And quite how the original list included nothing by Nobuo Uematsu is just a travesty.

@Zhukov quote "You lost me with your use of the word "real". Because, y'know, any such list you don't agree with is not "real".

Oh hey, and then you made a snide and irrelevant implication that any reviewer who approves of a new release is taking bribes didn't help. Cute. Because it's clearly impossible for someone to enjoy a new game on its own merits or - heavens above! - enjoy things that you don't.

Urrgh."

Never said it was impossible to enjoy new games, there are plenty I have enjoyed but in terms of their music it does not measure up! go groan in someone else's thread you thrice damned narn.

lol come back to this thread and gets spammed by console and anime fan-boys with their VGA beeping electric guitar music.

I will say that the Batman Arkham Asylum really was great music, Total Annihilation yes forgot that one and will admit that should of been up there thanks for reminding me. I also was considering battlefield 1942 music.

Oh and if you would to say I am an self-opinionated prick by all means, I enjoy reading some of the lines you come up with.

@ THE MADMAN LOL , seriously this is by far the better joke than I would of hoped for. Well I guess if you sound like elton john then there is no surpise then.
I sound like Elton John?

Not quite sure where you're going with this, but go on...
lol i meant the music for the civ 4 game you posted. that baba yetu ya mentioned
I think there might be a strange communication breakdown between your ears and your brain if you think that sounds like Elton John.

My most memorable game soundtrack is the one from Deus Ex - fits perfectly with the theme and setting of the game, is almost Vangelis-y in moments, really dig it.

Quake anyone?
Elton john did the lion king music, and I said that the Civ 4 Track that you posted sounded like the Circle of Life, compare the two

This thread is missing substance and masterpiece.

The Halo music is something to be put at the top 10. Say what you like about the actual games them selves, but the music, BY FUCKING FACT, is famous for its orchestral implementation into its franchise.
