It could be taken either way. Harbinger could have meant the worse threat as anihillation by The Reapers, or that the reapers stood between them and a greater threat.

I found the revelation about the geth more intruiging.

The next game is definatly shaping up for a Lord of the Rings style showdown - especially in my game, with the potential for help from the Geth, The Quarians (kept Tali's father's crimes secret, told them to hold off on war), the Krogan (kept the cure data), the Rachni (who were possibly manipulated by the Reapers as well when you think about it), etc etc...

Man I hate the council.

PS: You can have sex with Tali in the game.
But you can't see her damn face!

Fucking camera!

*sob*
I waited so god dam long. Bioware might start the long screw over line of not being able to see faces like Bungie did. Oh well
ps: did anyone go for Samara

Is it me or do people on this site have a thing for Tali?
How can you not? Is your sex drive malfunctioning?
She could look like Darth Vader under that mask.
She's just a Quarian, not the battered bruised broken and burned reconstructed body of a sith.
But we don't know what they look like aside from the fact they have eyes and a nose.

AUSSSSSIEEEEEESSSSS INNNNNNNNN SPACCCCCCEEEEEEE

Sorry, it had to be done. And her betrayal of the Illusive Man at the end was awesome.

Also relevant, what role will Cerberus, the Alliance, and the Council play in the last game? So far, I've tried to do everything to strengthen and unite the Council, destroying the collector base and all. Also, I have this theory (you heard it here first) that:

Cerberus is responsible for the dying sun Tali was investigating (Haestrom) when you go recruit her.
Evidence: at the beginning of the game, the sun behind the Illusive Man is orange, but by the last cut scene it is blue. That can't be normal can it? I left High School physics and the Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram on the other side of the world, does this make any sense? Has anyone discussed this possibility yet?

On topic: OP, your linking of Sovereign's line "we are each a nation" with the ending of ME2 blew my mind for a sec, then I spent a while trying to figure out why this wasn't obvious to me earlier. But yeah, they might not be trying to preserve humanity for its own good, they could just be trying to make more of themselves.

The sun reflects your alignment(Renegade or Paragon). Cerberus has nothing to do with the sun burning up.

Preserve civilization from what? Yes, it seems that the Reapers are using organic material to create other Reapers BUT the minds of those "organics" are not preserved. When a new Reaper is created, the minds of all the organics that were sacrificed to create it do not merge into a higher mind that gives life to the Reaper.

The Protheans were the most advanced civilization in the Galaxy and when the Reapers came they ended up being indoctrinated and turned into mindless drones with one Prothean serving has a "direct controller" through which Harbringer could then control the rest of the drones. That certainly was "preservation".

If they were trying to protect civilization from some sort of "attack" then they are doing a pretty bad job. The Reapers themselves are so technologically advanced, they're better off advancing the technology of the species living in the galaxy. Reaching the technology levels of the Reapers is quite something to be hold. Even so, it doesn't make sense as to why they turned the Protheans into what they are.

Are they trying to protect us from some imminent disaster? If so, which one? The only disaster that can occur is the Milky Way colliding with Andromeda but that's 5 million years from now(or then).

I do agree that the Reapers have a higher purpose BUT preserving civilization or protecting civilization from utter anihilation because of a certain cosmic event really isn't it (It wouldn't make sense to turn the Protheans into mindless drones the Reapers barely even cared about just to protect them from something).

Another tidbit: Reapers were the ones that started the Rachni Wars.
They were? Seriously?

Looks like I got told. Haven't had time to do a second playthrough yet. Dammit, but my theory was more awesome. I based my whole end-game major decision on that theory suggesting that Cerberus was up to no good.

They're preserving them, really? The Collectors WERE the protheans but they are not anymore. Technically yes, if you traced their history way, way, waaaay back you'd find they were, but now they're just tools of the Reapers. There's no going back for them, they were altered so much, and turned into mindless slaves. If they were preserving them they would have protected them. They're still around yeah, but where's their culture? Where are their lives? The reapers didn't do the protheans any favor by doing what they did. Even giving them the tech to advance their culture millenia ago didn't help them because it was just pushing them forwards into the pits(of despair). Anyways the way this game turns out, maybe. You really can't tell how the mass effect games are going to turn out.

quote] She betrayed the Illusive man for you? Hmmm I never trusted those cerberus bastards enough to get her to do that. By the way I was almost 100% paragon don't know if that changes anything.

and as a bounus what does ashly do if she's still alive in the 2nd game?

Edit:sorry about the double post

Yeah, I did Miranda's loyalty quest and had paragon at 100%. When the shit hit the fan w/r/t Cerberus at the end, she stood by me. It was awesome. The only reason I started to trust her was after her loyalty mission and the Illusive Man's commentary blurb in the mission summary after you finish it. Before, I was really hesitant.

What does Ashley do? Well, if in your game she's dead, I'm sure Kaiden was doing whatever Ashley was doing in my game. Since you don't exactly part on the best of terms, I would love to see some rivalry with Shepard in the third game and a reconciliation late in the day.

That could be the great threat the Reapers were speaking of, who knows. The Reapers could be Pawns themselves.

What if the Reapers made themselves to protect themselves from the greater threat?

Also, off topic, Garrus is hot :3

But they don't understand culture. Mordin talks about this, at least with the Collectors. Collectors have all of the technology yet no culture, which means they can do whatever they want yet they do not learn or really teach anything without culture. Maybe they see the physical continuation of the species to be salvation rather than culture or individuality.

PS. I speak for Thane, for he was awesome.

yeah the collectors don't, but they did when they were still normal protheans.

And Tane will never be as cool as Mordin, Thane never sang to me.
Thane is still pretty cool, just not as cool as Mordin. By the way was their a way to cure Thane illness?

Preservation through destruction? Makes no sense. Why would they even need to reproduce? They are never-aging machines. I figured that the Human-Reaper was more of a weapon or a symbol to the other races that shows what they'd eventually become; grey DNA juice pumped into a robot baby.

Mordin doesn't have an illness, i think you meant Thane. He is suppose to die soon.
