The recent Hacks- EVE, Minecraft...and the Escapist.

A bit surprised there's been no comment here, but here is what I saw:

Apparently, EVE Online was hacked, though not to great effect- a basic DDoS attack.

And according to this:

Are we not supposed to talk about this? I noticed the out of service period but I half-expected something on the Forums discussing it.

Yeh, i was rather surprised by the lack of response. I can understand the head guys and gals at the Escapist not wanting to make a big deal out of it (afterall, as well as lulz, the guys at lulzsec no doubt enjoy the attention) but i figured they'd have made an official statement telling us to change our passwords.

Maybe they're busy sorting out the site, upgrading security etc? If so, then fair enough. Thats the important thing.

I wondered why the site was down earlier today... Didn't at all expect it to be the work of the lulzsec. All seems to be well now though, so I think we're alright.

yeah, i was kinda bummed, was really hoping to see movie bob's new video (though.....weirdly enough i was able to watch it during the attack.... strange) and read some of the articles (which i did not!)

Comment? It was just a DDoS. Why should they speak up about it? Happens a few times a year or so.

The only staff member who should have any feelings about it is Kross, who has to deal with all the technical what-nots of this mess.

And he's too busy looking badass to bother commenting.

I inadvertantly logged onto twitter in the middle of all this, and watched the sites go down on Lulzsec's tweets. Apparently the escapist community were pretty hostile to Lulzsec. Personally, I liked them while they were still attacking companies who quout/unquote 'deserved' it. The Escapist and Minecraft, did they really deserve it? And League of Legends? And I guess maybe EVE?
Just saying. I liked them better when they were taking on the government or doing big stuff. This is just small scale stuff that just alienates if nothing else probably about half their group.

Also they actually helped the NHS and some security companies. That was pretty cool of them.

Confirmed that I cannot connect to Minecraft.net at the time, so I have to play offline. Also, the MinecraftForum was acting wonky earlier today. Haven't noticed any problems with the Escapist, though. Regarding EVE... I'm not sure they're taking any chances after they got hacked through their forums.

I'm just hoping that the Escapist didn't lose too much money on all this. Gotta pay the bills after all.

Changed my passwords on every retail site I visit...

..Also, if I find anyone IRL that says they are part of this organization, let's hope that there is a person of law around them and also a medical team, because it's ok if they want to dick around with other groups but when they touch my escapist? Hell no. Not ok. At all.

Lulzsec does what it does for kicks and nothing else. Anything positive that comes about as an indirect result their actions is purely incidental and Lulzsec does not deserve any credit.
