I went on rubik craze a couple of years ago, and can still do one - just about. I think my method was F2L; cross on final side; place final corners; rotate final corners; place final edges.
My best ever time was 42 seconds, a number that I'm very satisfied to settle on! :D

Next up is solving a 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 cube...
Be prepared for the mind numbing horror that is parity

Yeah I can solve a normal 3x3x3 in bout 1:15 (average ish) using that beginner method and I can't be arsed to learn anything more complex.

And I can solve the 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 and 2x2x2 (no accomplishment there).

Much to my shame, i have never completed a rubiks cube. Those things are one of my biggest nemesis's
Same here, though I have never looked at any 'methods' for solving it. I spent a whole plane journey fuming over one, without result. I had never felt so stupid.
The longest i have spent is about an hour and a half. You would think i would have gotten it through sheer chance after that long XD

Never solved one, but I know I could learn how in about 10 minutes. It's not impressive to me, and I never really bothered to learn. It'd take longer for me to go out and buy one than it would to learn how to solve the bloody thing.
I doubt that very muchly, it sounds like "I can do it, I just don't want to show you I can". It's ok you don't find it impressive but don't make out it's as easy as riding a bike.

Just look up on YouTube 'how to solve a Rubik's Cube' and you'll probably find over a dozen videos of (likely the same or similar) really easy ways to do it. I couldn't for the life of me figure it out myself though. Without a 'how to' I'd be totally stumped, but with a simple how to, I could learn, anyone can. Anyone can learn how to do it within ten or fifteen minutes with the right instruction.

I've tried to solve those things many a times. All times i have failed and put the cube away.

P.S--Have fun with the Petaminx Cube.

I memorized the patterns that were in the instruction booklet and modified them for extra speed! My fastest time is around the 2 minute mark.

Never tried the 4x4x4 though, always have wanted to.

Thats what I thought but it actually took me a day off you tube, the basic premise is simple match 2 or 3 colors and do the one of the 5/6 algorithms but it's understanding what Ri,D, R, Di means then doing it, committing it to memory and remember were and when to use it for all of the algorithms. (that algorithm is the easiest one)

It took me a week from starting, to get frustrated and putting it down and picking it up again etc, sheer hours learning I would guess 9 or 10 hours if I did it solid, maybe I am a slow learner.

If you feel confident you can learn in 10 mins by all means prove me wrong but I doubt it's possible.

I am afraid of those nasty little buggers.
Such a simple principle, yet astoundingly hard to figure out. By yourself, that is.
I don't care much for the sport in itself, but I'd have respect to anyone who has solved it by him/herself.
Basically this. I've never been a fan of solving them myself (I just can't seem to enjoy it), but every time someone else does, I'm very impressed.

3x3 best time: 2 mins.
4x4 best time: 4:30
I've also taught 2 people successfully to solve it. All my other Rubik Padawans fell to the dark side after I taught them how to solve one side.

I've finished one, and only one. It was entirely luck. I did have a friend who got good enough at it that he finished one in the time that a plane started taking off to just before the last wheel left the ground. Also a friend of a friend who could finish a rubik's cube faster than he could undo his girlfriend's bra...
Then this would be no problem for your friend:

Friend of a friend, but I'm pretty sure that picture is how the conversation got started.
