Almost every movie and TV episode of anything involving dogs that I've seen has had them sadly die. What is up with these writers?

Uh, this is a no brainer: Mufasa from the Lion King.
Nooo! Stop trampling him your terrible antelopes! He's just trying to save his boy!

How could you forget about Hooch! The ending still brings a tear to my eye.

End of Terminator 2 the first few times i watched it. The original Transformers film when Optimus kicks the bucket. When Mc Clane Kills Hans Gruber. I liked him.

...that is very sad.

i just thought that i would mention that the futarama episode is actually a reference to "the story of hachi", a true story that took place in japan 83 years ago. hachi (the dog) would wait for his master to return home from the university every day. when his master passed away, hachi continued to wait there. he waited there for 9 years: the rest of his life. there is now a statue in the place where he sat waiting.

I found that one sad as well. I was prepared as I had read the book, but I still found it sad...

Has anyone here read the book I Am Legend? I thought the dogs death in that was far more sad than the dog in the movie.

Hmm, movie-wise the Sam's death in I am Legend is right up there.

Most tearful ones across *any* media though...both are from the same book (Fire Bringer by David Clement-Davis),
firstly where Peppa is killed in battle, that's like a kick in the balls, and secondly Rannoch's death at the end of the book - I challenge anyone not to tear up at that
.

Actually, I think I'm the only person to have ever read that book, which is a pitty as it's an awesome story. It's basically the rise of Nazism (if Hitler was offed and replaced with the more fantatical Goebells/Himmler) but told from the point of view of a herd of red deer. It's one of those books that is at first glance a kids book, but contains some really mature themes and is one I think any adult should have read.

Yea, because he was trying to befriend the dog all along, and for the most part, it was unreceptive. Until, well, you know the story...

Only one thing in any form of media has made me cry since I was very young: The end of Jurassic Bark. (Though the endings of MGS3 and 4 came close)

To this day, every time I see it I cry.
