Even though it wasn't a movie, the Jane scene from breaking bad was very depressing and Walt's character was depressing as well.

It's not hard to make me cry at a film, but the film that made me the absolute saddest was Schindlers List. Especially that scene Liam Neeson does, if you've seen the film you know what I'm talking about.

I don't know if any other film will ever beat that one.
Definitely yes. I was a goddamn mess through that scene.

Runner up has to go to The Iron Giant.

Surprising considering it was an Adam Sandler movie, but I'm going to have to say Reign Over Me. I think it is his best non-comedic role. Just seeing his character's sublime devastation that has caused him to completely disconnect from life, just existing, not living.

Requiem for a Dream, no question.

I'd link you guys to the final scene.. but I just can't. I don't want to put myself through that again, and I definitely don't want to share the misery with everyone else.

I'm happy I watched that movie, though. It may have been emotionally draining and depressing, but I'll be damned if it wasn't the most beautiful film I've ever seen.

All the major ones have already been mentioned, so I'll just throw in The Land Before Time.

Everthing that happens is made even more tragic being set against the backdrop of a dying world.

Bridge to Terabithia. Expected a fantasy film for kids. Nothing too deep. Left practically sobbing my eyes out for the last half hour.

Also I expected more Zooey Deschanel from that film. That too made me sad.
This shit, i could barely handle watching it :'(

If I made a list, it'd include Requiem for a Dream, Grave of the Fireflies and The Wrestler, all of which have been mentioned at least twice. So I'm going to recommend a movie that made me feel so down that I could barely sleep after seeing it.

The Girl Next Door.
Do not fucking watch it unless you feel like you hold humanity in too high esteem.

No amounts of Hitler rants or Fegelein shenanigans could soften the blow of this film...

I think a film that manages to make you feel sorry for Hitler & Friends is doing something right.
Ever see the movie Stalingrad? You just made me remember that.
Also Das Boot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxMXtofZny8
Make sure to watch the longest version in the original german.
On topic tho, I'd vote La Strada as the saddest MOVIE I've ever seen. Otherwise, it's Grave of the Fireflies.

The Notebook is so god damn depressing.

It start's off as your typical cliché romance film, but then slowly turns in to one of the most soul crushing movies of all time.

It sure as hell chocked me up a few times, especially since dementia does indeed destroy a couples love for each other.

Requiem for a Dream. Absolutely depressing stuff. Though highly effective at making its point and a damn fine amazing movie.
Definitely. I watched that with my friend, and at the end of it we were both just kind of like, ".....Whoa".
