I chose an eternity of this
Like falling angels
The world disappeared
Laughing into the fire
Is it always like this?
Flesh and blood and the first kiss
The first colours
The first kiss

We writhed under a red light
Voodoo smile
Siamese twins
A girl at the window looks at me for an hour
Then everything falls apart
Broken inside me
It falls apart

The walls and the ceiling move in time
Push a blade into my hands
Slowly up the stairs
And into the room
Is it always like this?

Dancing in my pocket
Worms eat my skin
She glows and grows
With arms outstretched
Her legs around me

In the morning I cried

Leave me to die
You won't remember my voice
I walked away and grew old
You never talk
We never smile
I scream
You're nothing
I don't need you any more
You're nothing

It fades and spins
Fades and spins

Sing out loud
We all die
Laughing into the fire

Is it always like this?
Is it always like this?
Is it always like this?

EDIT: If you have empathy for her, the woman in Dylans Rolling Stone then you'd easily get depressed. A woman who was a high flyer, falling on hard times, losing everything and becoming a prostitute, thats pretty grim. That aside I love The Cure and Pornagraphy is one of the most beautifully dark albums I have ever listened to; and in many ways its better than Dissintigration. It would be good to know if there are any other escapists on here with similar views?

Gloomy Sunday [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48cTUnUtzx4].

It's especially sad if you can emphasise with the loss of a loved one, and/or thoughts of suicide.

No one has said Moonlight Sonata yet? Wow!

Here it is, the one, the only, the legendary Piano Sonata No. 14 by Beethoven, or as it's better know; Moonlight Sonata. Probably Beethoven's most simple and yet poignant song. If all of humanity were destroyed tomorrow and one song were to remain to represent all of mankind into the future and into the cosmos, this is the one I'd pick.

I second this.

The saddest song ever, doesn't even need words to move people.

Unless you are a rabid techno fan.

why do people keep saying that madworld is a very sad song? just because its atmosphere is gloomy does not make it a watery eye song. the only reason it could be sad would be from noglostia but thats not really the song and more just the mood that it invokes.

Game songs? Lame.
Broken Drum by Beck and No Distance Left to Run by Blur never fail to make me tear up. Mostly because they remind me of certain unpleasant pasts with certain people.

Lacrimosa [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qKgktiuf1k] - Video spoils the ending from Interview with a Vampire, just to note.
My Immortal - Evanescence
None Can Die [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3x6Hc8Y27s] - Ending piece from a movie called Tristan & Isolde
People Seized With Life - Chrono Cross

Probably have others I will post afterwards.

The Saddest Song [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUDndFKTA0s], of course...
I was wondering if somebody would mention that one. I can't really deny that "The Saddest Song" is the saddest song I've ever heard. Aside from that, Lonely Day by SOAD is probably closest.

I have to disagree with Mad World. Don't get me wrong, I love that song, for sure, but it's not sad. It's mellow.

And Johnny Cash has done some good stuff, but the original Hurt is better. Reznor had something with that.

As far as a sad song, well, you have to go to Nickel Creek's The Lighthouse's Tale. Saddest song in the world.

Also, I recommend just listening to the song and not watching the video. The song is better without it.
