So after 10 long years, the final episode of Season 3 of TFS has aired, and features the defeat of Cell and the ending of the series.
AND THE PROMISE OF A SEASON 4!
That word there is the fundamental reason I think DragonBall Z and Hellsing Ultimate Abridged work as well as they do. If they hated DBZ or Hellsing and were merely intent on tearing it down and making it and all its characters look stupid it might have gotten a few episode in before fading into deserved obscurity. Instead its mockery is coming from a place of love and understanding of the shows. Ergo the jokes are funnier, and the heartfelt stuff is still really on point. Hell some parts are even more believable: the way the depict Vegeta and Bulma getting together is not only fucking hilarious, but probably super accurate.WhiteFangofWhoa said:Beautiful. Feels like they were going more for genuine emotion than satire (there are so many other ways they could have made Gohan's breakdown more unsettling), but then I always knew this was an 'affectionate parody'.
And yet all Yamcha gets is Cell laughing at him. And towels.Gordon_4 said:And I must say, it took ten years and nearly 40 times getting owned, but Krillen finally got his due as a solid guy. Owned count reset.
It already taken down again? Was still up yesterday when I rewatched it. Oh Toei, when will you learn. That answer is never apparently.Redlin5 said:Complete with the traditional Youtube takedown.
I think it's dumb Toei keeps taking them down when Teamfourstar was pretty instrumental in the recent surge of DBZ popularity.Roxas1359 said:It already taken down again? Yeah, I agree. I feel like the writers thought they needed to subvert the original show at that point. Unfortunately, they didn't quite pull it off, and it felt forced. Subversion for the sake of subversion.erttheking said:I feel like the "Gohan is a coward/pacifist patting himself on the back/needs to grow up"...thing...came a little out of left field and didn't really mesh with how he had been acting throughout the series, but aside from that it was pretty darn good.
That's always been their weakness. Oh, and black comedy for the sake of it. Apparently this is supposed to tie in to some of Gohan's jerkass moments, but these events were so minor or mostly directed at villains, that those moments barely connect together. The dialogue still made me laugh, so mission accomplished I guess.SupahEwok said:Yeah, I agree. I feel like the writers thought they needed to subvert the original show at that point.
