Why just the moustache? Why not just go the whole nine yards for No-shave November?

Because anyone can just "not shave". It takes effort to groom an immaculately shaved mustachio.
What he said precisely! Mustaches are unusual and awesome. Hobo beards are not.

I feel kind of out of place here... I don't use shaving cream and only the cheap disposable razors and I don't have any problems with burns, cuts, irritation or anything... also comes out super smooth like a baby...<.<

LOL NO! if your goal is pimples and ingrown hairs then be my guest, but otherwise its not worth it.
Uhh, plenty of people do that. It's a known trick anyway. I shave against it all the time, and considering I shave my entire body in that fashion, it works just fine every time.

like a couple of guys before me said, a regular old non electric razor gets you the cleanest shave. thats the biggest deal really, (aside from the direction in which you shave, but I'll refrain from quoting what has been said numerous times above :p)

and take your time, I ussually do it under the shower, feel with my hand what spots I might have missed, and then check in the mirror once I get out of the shower for any glaring oversights.

although I ussually don't do it every day and not to carefull if it's only for the sake of my computer screen and the dude sitting across from me in the library ;)

Stop using cartridge razors. The blades are more expensive and the give a substantially worse shave. Safety razors are much better, once you get past the inevitable phase of nicking your phase due to bad habits.
Also, start using shaving gel instead offoam, and let it settle in for a few minutes before you shave. And, as others have been saying, one pass with the grain, another pass against it.

Yeah pretty all this. Wrap a hot damp towel around your face first. Steam really softens up the stubble and lets the razor cut easier.

Whenever I do it it just makes my skin cry...

Pull the skin back, against the grain, with ya hand and shave, it cuts it at a far lower cut. Also it takes about 3 weeks for ya razor, electricial or whatever for your face to get used to it, try it, it worked for me. But I havent shaved in 2 weeks!
You haven't shaved in two weeks? What magical razor are YOU using?

If you are short, grow it, braid it and carry around an axe.
If not go against the grain.
What he said. Believe in the beard. I'm growing a lovely chinstrap with moustache at the moment.

well the absolute 'best' way to get a close shave is with warm cream, one of those shaving brush things, and a straight razor.
Yeah pretty much this, but CRAP is it hard to either A.) Learn to do this yourself, or B.) Find someone to do it for you D:

I use a mach 3 with gel. Make sure you use hot water, the shower is probably good for that, it will expand the hair for a closer shave. Go against the grain, or if you need to - with the grain, clean, reapply shaving cream, and then against the grain.

Source - aside from my age, I'm gonna say if it was close enough for multiple Drill Sergeants to inspect my face every day during basic training, then I'm sure it will suit your purposes as well.

What is this Movember? I am intrigued.

OT: You could try getting some of the pre-shave crap, makes the hairs stand up more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movember

It started as(and still is) a charity event. But any excuse to grow a porn stache is good enough for me. Personally I've never had good enough facial hair growth up until this point. But now I can grow some decent face-locks that I have to do it.

There's also Mustache March if you miss Movember. :p

Oh, everyone I know just calls it No-Shave-November, and the facial hair of choice is the beard. I particapated last year.

What does "against the grain" mean? Sorry, I'm idiot when it comes to shaving, I had to teach myself and didn't start until I was like 15, plus I use cheap disposable razors. I have the same problem, not sure if it's my crappy shaving skills, the crappy razor, or both...
feel how your hair naturally grows, then shave against how it grows.

How fast hair grows back depends on the person, but I can usually go a week or two without having any noticeable facial hair.

All I use though is just plain water and the razor though, if I must, I use a tiny bit of hand soap, but thats only on rare occasions.

The best advice I can give though is when shaving, press down with your razor.

Sure, you might cut yourself a few times, but with enough practice you can find the best amount of pressure and get a very close shave.

Of course, why shave when you can have a MANLY BEARD AND JOIN THE MANLY BEARD FOR MENLY MEN CLUB FOR MEN WHO EAT STEAKS AND DRIVE TRUCKS MADE OUT OF STEAKS.
You lucky, lucky man. I have to shave every single day now because my hair grows JUUUUST long enough and thick enough that it looks disgusting, but not so long and thick that I can actually grow a beard. It sucks.

OP: I'm actually looking into getting a straight razor myself. Not for everyday use, but when I need to look my best and have time to spend 10-15 minutes shaving.

the best way to get a close shave first go with the grain, which you are doing, then go across it, and finally, if you are unsatisfied, go against, each time adding new shaving cream/foam/whatever

now you may ask why so many passes? the answer: to avoid ingrown hairs. trust me... there's nothing nastier than that

EDIT: grow a mustash!

Safest thing to involve lasers!
The worst that can happen? You get a small burn, or something similar to a sun burn, and it stings for a day or two. My friend had it done, because he joined the military, and they want you clean shaven almost all the time, but he would get a 5 o'clock shadow almost every morning he woke up.

You normally have to go in two or three times for the full treatment, but if you hate shaving, or have a fear of sharp objects near your neck, its a decent alternative. xD
