The Simpsons never stopped being funny.

All the people saying it stopped being funny any number of years back probably never really "got" the show, and do not like shows like it. I'm guessing they're pretentions dickwads, but that's just me. Feel free to *not* like the Simpsons.
Personally, I hate the Simpsons now, since it's just the same crap as Family Guy; a bunch of pop culture references. Speaking as someone who lives under a metaphorical rock, I don't find something funny when I don't get it. So if all the jokes consist of "It's about as popular as X person when the media spread Y," I tend to scratch my head and impersonate David Tennet; "What."

I have the first two seasons on DVD somewhere in this mess I call a room, and I found them humorous. The problem is... I really don't give a shit about pop culture, and that's the likely reason I don't like the series anymore.

To be fair, I haven't seen the series in years, but still... I think I don't need justification for not watching something I don't like.

I liked the movie and some of the new episodes have been good, but some of them have been the same "musical number that goes on for minutes to kill time while not being funny" that Family Guy does daily.

Seasons 1-4 were are slow start, then it slowly got better, the movie was a big pile of shit, and just after that was a quick-fire burst of more shitty episodes, then they got back on their feet and I'm enjoying them again.
Although, for me it doesn't matter that much because they rerun episodes from their random collection, I've seen the vast majority of the ones in there :)

Isn't that a lil' generalizing everyone's opinion with one answer? Obviously if people never "got the show" they would have stopped watching it a few episodes into the first season. I'm one of those "dickwards" who find it got to the end of the originality around season 10 so yeah a few years back for me too.
Sorry to rain on your parade mate but if people have gotten tired of it and you took the time out to ask them nicely why that was then you could have a lil' insight into....ah I'm done here

I think it stopped being consistently funny after season 12 or 13.
Agreed. Current episodes aren't bad, but the show is long past its golden age. (That being the mid-to-late 90's. The show was pure genius back then)

The movie was pretty funny, though.

As soon as they entered into the 21st Century, they started getting less and less funny.

I think they just hit a rough spot. Like most forms of entertainment they have their ups and downs. Some are so quick to lose hope when there are a few episodes they don't like. It's not like it's the worst show in the world now.

Probably a bit after family guy got popular, they started trying to take tricks from their book and it just doesn't work as well.

Still, I have to say the older episodes are still as brilliant as ever.

I stopped watching when it stopped being relevent. I mean I just didn't find it special or good anymore. I remember watching the first episode on Sky 1 years ago and being a big fan until it just lost it's spark.

Arrested Development is the best show to jump the shark:

I watch both old and new. The new ones are decent but sometimes just blatantly crap. It got started to get worse 2 years ago

The show has been complete shit for a good ten years now, which is a shame because of how fantastic it used to be. Watch "Bart Sells His Soul", and then any episode post season 12.

When did The Simpsons Jump The Shark?
The Simpsons has become one of those cultural phenomena that have been running for long enough that different people will prefer different eras of the show and not like other eras.

For me, the Simpsons haven't been good since 1993 when Conan O'Brien left. I don't think that it was his influence that made the show good necessarily. But around that same time the show decided to chuck pacing and any real heart the show had in favor of just shoving as many jokes or gags as they can. It just seems so immature, like how a child will gorge itself on candy and get sick rather than savoring the sweetness of a single chocolate, but also appreciating the bitter notes and other flavors as well.

That is, the show dumbed down considerably. Which may be why I haven't watched the show in over fifteen years. I was catching reruns at one point, but then my schedule changed and that's out now. The newer episodes do have their share of laughs but what made the Simpsons special for me is missing.
