After 23 years on TV, The Simpsons might finally be about to come to an end ? and all because of a dispute over money.
According to the Daily Beast, 20th Century Fox has demanded that The Simpsons' six main voice actors take a whopping 45 per cent pay cut in any potential future seasons of the show. Naturally, the cast ? Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer ? aren't happy about it.

"The show has made billions in profits over the years and will continue to do so as far as the eye can see down the road," blabbed an insider. "The actors are willing to take a pay cut of roughly a third, but that?s not good enough for Fox."
On the one hand, the actors each currently make about US$8 million a year (approximately US$400,000 per episode), and even if they take the pay cut their salaries will still be more than US$4 million. On the other hand, they've contributed as much to the success of the show as any of its creators, so.

Meanwhile Fox is playing hardball, claiming it "cannot produce future seasons [of The Simpsons] under its current financial model."
This isn't the first time The Simpsons stars have gone head-to-head with Fox: in 1998 the studio threatened to replace the actors with sound-alikes when they demanded pay rises, and there were more money disputes in 2004 and 2008.

Note: IT MAY be Cancelled but i hope it does it had a good run.

So the curtain seems to be falling on the Simpsons family of Evergreen Terrace the great show now looking at the guillotine. I personally use to love the show and watch it all the time, but these new eps are very bad there unfunny and are not as good as previous.

But i hope the show is ending, if it kept going it would just keep pedalling these unfunny shows. but lets recall our fave Simpsons moments

my personal fave is

good, as much as i like the simpsons, it's getting tired, it's reached its end.

Some may crucify me for saying this but it's the same as HIMYM, it's lost it's touch and it's getting less and less funny, as much as i love both shows, they should know when to call it quits and go out with dignity

Well, I for one am going to try to remember the good old days... before it just tried to be a Family Guy knock off. I daresay it's about time someone took it behind the shed and planted both barrels between its eyes. As for my favorite Simpsons moment... hmmm that's a tough call... But I have to go with,

As much as I loved the old episodes, I feel the latest season has seen an upswing in quality. Even some of the bits from episodes in recent seasons weren't terrible. Also, when you compare The Simpson's latest episodes to the Seth MacFarlene trio, Simpson's is coming up on top. The hurricane episodes were crap-tastic and the hot-tub episode of American Dad was garbage.

But, those are other shows. My favorite Simpson's bit?
...
I've got nothing. There are too many to pick just one.

On a final note, The Simpson's is too huge, as a brand, to just be allowed to die. If Fox axes Simpson's, I can see someone like Comedy Central picking it back up. Imagine The Simpson's on Comedy Central! It's done great things for Futurama.

Unfortunately, I agree that it should have ended long ago. The same thing with Family Guy.

My favorite?

Always makes me smile.

The search bar is your friend, it helps keep the forum from getting cluttered with repeat threads. There's already a thread about this in the news room, you'll probably get more of a discussion there.

OT: Negotiations about pay does not mean the series is getting canned, fox would be stupid to do that.

Finally because as much as I loved the old episodes the new ones make me froth at the mouth. I just saw an episode a couple days ago and the only part I laughed at was when Skinner was burned by Nelson [Skinner:] I, like all boys. [Nelson:] you like all boys?

I don't have a favorite scene, I loved all of them. I have their CDs for goodness sakes.
I don't know what happened to them, I mean if they ran 18 years being funny how did it go downhill so fast? Well at least I think its 18 years...

Its about time.. the show died ten or more years ago, but its zombified unfunny remains have continued to parody the movements that used to be funny. Unfortunately its not, and it has not been for a very long time.

To be fair it's probably a good thing if the Simpsons gets cancelled (even if just for a short while), it's been around for ages and has become somewhat a bit stale (I remember being excited about seeing a new episode on Sky every Sunday when I was younger but now I barely even watch old episodes anymore).

Maybe it'd be a good idea to just cancel it for a short while and give people time to actually miss the Simpsons before maybe bringing them back again with some fresh new writing (maybe even change the setting and characters a bit if need be).

I definitely think it's still funny. I don't watch it regularly, but when I do see new episodes, I'm still laughing. I mean, the Tree house of Horrors with Edward Cullen? I thought it was genius. As for my favorite moment...

IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME. I wish it could've been sent off with some grace a few years ago, but this is as good a reason as any to take the old girl behind the shed.
Fox's financial model, my achin' ass, it just means the execs figured out where they can bleed money out of certain people and productions and into their pockets. Shoot, the actors said a one-third pay cut was acceptable, but Fox wanted more, tell me that doesn't absolutely wreak of executive greed. You know what, I changed my mind. I hope the actors get what they want and The Simpsons keeps shambling on for another 5 or more years, just to piss them off.

I must say, I really like their new episodes. It's different from what it was, but I like it.
It'll be sad to see it go off air for me.

Not gonna derail the thread, I just wanted to say thanks for mentioning that. The show started grating on me with the whole Barney's dad storyline. Then when it finally ended they jumped right into the crap Nora storyline without a single good episode between, and now after all that he's getting married? The #@!$?

It's never good when shows start going in really ridiculous random directions like that, but I actually didn't feel like that was happening with The Simpsons. A few new episodes were definitely off the ball, but a few good ones could have very well created a return to form. Who knows we'll see, but if it doesn't get canceled it's possible they'll get the magic back at some point.

Well good, I guess, it has been going on for a long time and as much as I enjoyed it I can imagine it would start to be running out of originality by now. Although this means that Family Guy will probably be dominating the timeslots now, so no more PG rated, safe-enough -for-kids-to-watch-level humour cartoons. A new animated show will probably be introduced, but it will most likely fail.

Can't say I'll miss it. Its not kept up with the times, they did an episode based on "saw" 5 years after the film came out, rendering the joke more sad than funny. Simpsons has had its time, now let it go.

TBH, if this is true it's about 5 years too late. The Simpsons has been phoning it in for at least that long, maybe longer.

It just seems they've run out of ideas and keep rehashing old plots with a slightly different riff.

I doubt it will end, they had this dance a few years back. I would love for it to end though, it's just so bad now, it's tarnishing my cherished memories of back when it was good, heck, back when it was decent...
