IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME. I wish it could've been sent off with some grace a few years ago, but this is as good a reason as any to take the old girl behind the shed.
Fox's financial model, my achin' ass, it just means the execs figured out where they can bleed money out of certain people and productions and into their pockets. Shoot, the actors said a one-third pay cut was acceptable, but Fox wanted more, tell me that doesn't absolutely wreak of executive greed. You know what, I changed my mind. I hope the actors get what they want and The Simpsons keeps shambling on for another 5 or more years, just to piss them off.
... I'm sorry, but if they're being paid $8 million dollars to read out of a script, and refused to be paid $4 million or so, then that's ridiculous, to me, the actors reek of greed.

OT: Yeah, they should've died a long time ago, watching the new episodes, all the things that made it so popular years ago, seems to have disappeared, it isn't the same show it used to be.

Meh. Fox has a history of pulling big media stunts only in the interest of winning pay negotiations with their staff by scaring them.

I remember they did said they were going to cast a new set of voice actors for futurama just to try to get an edge in negotiations.

They are probably bluffing. Simpsons makes them too much money.

The show hasn't been good in ages, thank goodness it's over...maybe the budget can go back toward Firefly...who am I kidding.

The Simpsons stopped being funny at season 15. It's about time; the last 6 years have been nothing but a stain on the series and made it all worse for it.

Mourn the loss of what could have been, rejoice the death of what is.

i think its about time for all of animation domination (if fox still calls it that) to die. all of those shows stopped being funny a long time ago and some of them stopped being funny before the first episode ended

About time it was being cancelled. Should have ended it with the movie.

Oh, and can't really name a favourite scene, but this has to be one of them:

It was about time. The Simpsons got really bad! It was an insult to the old episodes to keep it running no mather what. The breaking point for me was somewhere after episode 300, episodes weren't political anymore, weren't funny and really cheesy.

Ok how does this spell the end for the Simpsons? This isn't the first time Fox has demanded they take a cut and it probably won't be the last.

I'm sure something will get worked out. That's how negotiations work. I mean the cast of Friends ended up being paid $1m per episode each, and the Simpsons is far better than they were.

My favourite episode has to be "You only move twice" where Homer gets a new job in a perfect town with a great boss who happens to be a super-villain. Just priceless. My favourite moment?

My Bad everyone
Not only that, but this thread was posted hours after the news thread that told this story like it actually was: an unresolved dispute. Here you are proclaiming in black and white that the Simpsons is going to be cancelled soon. You didn't search the forums, you didn't check your facts, and now your sensationalist topic has mislead everyone that clicked on the link to this thread.

I have to say that, when I was a lil kiddo I did look forward to watching the Simpsons at 6pm, and was delighted when BBC2 started showing it more often, and then when Channel 4 had it on everyday of the week, but then when it got to around that episode where they went to Tokyo, I kinda realised: this is rubbish! In fact, I thought that episode was a little racist...

Going back over it, I still find some bits from earlier series funny, such as the bit where Bart lined up all the megaphones at the police station, but then the rest of the episode wasn't so great.

The first few series didn't seem to be trying so hard to be funny, and instead focused on a story or moral to put across (sorta) and so I liked them more, and in a way respected them, but it went down hill very fast and turned into something I hated.

Going off on a slight tangent, I love Family Guy, but it sees like Seth has begun to run out of ideas with this: Series 7 began to be a bit hit and miss at times, as did some episodes of series 8 (not seen beyond there as yet I'm afraid to say). The weird thing is, South Park, in my mind, is as good now as it ever has been. Though not every episode has been gold within a season, the seasons themselves are consistently good, and it works better because it is more based in issues and putting a point across than the Simpsons.

Back to the yellow ones no longer being funny or involving: it could well be that they've just run out of steam with the characters. That's one way South Park has stayed good: they've done episodes from the point of view of characters outside the main cast, such as The Ungroundable, where the main 4 barely feature.

The Simpsons Movie was terrible, but I know that the minds behind it can produce gold. The 4 Futurama films demonstrate that they have ability, in fact, the first and fourth were 2 of the best films I'd seen in ages, with compelling plots as well as good comedic elements, and they produced real structure, with a good, if slightly predictable twist in the first one
In Bender's Big Score, Lars, who was set to marry Leela, turned out to be an alternate Fry in a weird time-travel duplication thing, and that story line was actually rather touching

Anyhow, as to the potential end to The Simpsons: It's dragged on so long that it's lost it's dignity, like if in Lord of the Rings you saw Aragorn 15 years later without any wars to fight, and he's reviled as a leader because that wasn't what he was intended for. It's as Harvey Dent said: You either die as a hero or live long enough to become the vilain (or whatever his exact phrasing was). The only way the Simpsons can restore ANY respect would be if they decided to can it for all the right reasons, and if they draw the line under it permanently and maybe killed Homer...

Some of the comments on here are a little strange. Do people expect it to suddenly stop airing, even if it is cancelled?
How often do we watch the same episodes over and over?
There's a marathon on all the time, on one channel or another.
People will continue watching it as long as there are people to watch it, and the same episodes will be recycled time and time again, just as they are now.
I mean, they've got, what, 23 seasons now (?) to cycle through? That'll keep 'em going for a good few years.
It's not going to suddenly disappear off tv if it's cancelled.

also i put up 'The Simpsons is going to be cancelled soon' up due to the fact that it was the Title of the news report was. If you clicked the link you would see the title of the report is 'The Simpsons is going to be Cancelled soon'.

plus i did go onto the News Section and didn't see it on the first page so i just assumed that no one had posted anything about it.

1) I think the Simpsons should have ended years ago but hey, i dont watch it anyway so yeah

2) I strongly suspect Fox are bluffing to try to get the cast to take the cut. I cant see Fox cancelling a winner like this.

I hope it gets cancelled. Not only has the writing gotten terrible, but the jokes that are supposed to make up for it are simply not funny.

I actually got back into the Simpsons fairly recently, around season 21, and I actually haven't laughed at an episode of anything that much since season 5 of Family Guy.
