I can understand if not many people on this site care about the Sims 3 or what goes on in relation to it but I would just like to draw your attention to this;

Your female sim is the only one who recieves the 'shame' for this 'heinous act' Also note the term 'bad actions' and 'innapropriate behaiviour' :|...

So despite your feelings on the Sims 3 what do you make of this??

Personally it made my blood boil. In my opinion, there is absolutely no shame in having children out of wedlock these days and many couple choose to remain unmarried because of cost and also religious (or lack of) beliefs.

(If this should be in off topic then please move I was unsure where to put it)

Edit: I'd just like to point out that my sim is a celebrity and this is why this message appeared, It's still not justified though in my eyes here in Britain tabloids tend to love celebrity mums married or otherwise...It's actually pretty hard not to become a celebrity in the sims 3 you increase in 'rank' as you make friends and get ahead in your career.

Edit 2: Maxis did not make The Sims 3...look it up >_>

Edit: Update: My friend who also plays reports that the man also gets the debuff but only if he's the only parent living in the active household and the mother is elsewhere :/ I still think it's a little off that in my household only the lady got it. Especially since both were celebrities. But at least we don't have sexism to add to the madness. Just thought I would add that for clarity.

WTF?

This has to be a bad joke. Well, that or a really failed attempt at social commentary.

Wow. I'm actually surprised at this. This is exactly the kind of thing that media outlets love to hype and yet no one has mentioned this before?

That's just ridiculous.

Is there another public disgracing for having a relationship with a black person?

Dear EA, were passed all that crap, grow up. Sincerely, world.

I like it. There is shame in intentionally having kids as a single parent and couples who choose to remain unmarried in my experience have only bad reasons for doing so.

Nice to see a piece of modern media actually shoving that in peoples faces a bit.

Umm having played the Sims 1-3 I honestly don't remember this EVER coming up from having a child un-married. Are you sure it isn't when you have a child with someone who ISN'T your spouse? Could be wrong here, but I don't remember this at all.

Sounds like some writers were having trouble coming up with ideas for +/- mods in the Sims. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Also, it's not entirely innacurate. While some of society is more accepting, there will always be those judgmental people who will look down on you for whatever reason.

Fact is, a lot of people still pass judgement on couples who have children out of wedlock. It can be embarrassing for some. I doubt EA was saying it's shameful, rather that in our society it is often viewed as disgraceful.
EDIT: You'll notice it doesn't say you're depressed because you had a child out of wedlock, but rather people found out. And so you became the social pariah or whatever.

What shame is there in raising a child as a single parent? And what 'bad reasons' do people have for not getting married? Because in my experience, I've never come across any untoward reasons for people not anting to marry.

OT: I don't think there's any justification for having this in a game, I have no idea what the developers were thinking.

I know a LOT of people around where I live who would view that negatively, but then again they'd also look down on this:

Way to put bigotry in your video games, EA.

EDIT: Also, only the female sim receives the public shame??? That implies pregnancy is the female's fault... Wow. Just wow.

It's so hard to keep people straight. All I see is Bieber.

While I do find it in poor taste, I can't help but wonder if there are similar ones for males. Such as paternal denial or for dodging support payments.

My sims has only ever had 1 boyfriend who she is engaged too. She hasn't even slept with anyone else (poor gal lol)

I can understand if people have other views but personally I find it ridiculous that this could be in a modern game.

And you really think it's much different in Real Life? You think the women with child that do not have a husband are treated as"equal" by local societies? No sir. Sorry. They are very often seen as sluts. "Girl slept around with random guys so no wonder that she now has a kiddo" - that's the most common thing.

Should it be in a game like Sims? I'm not sure, maybe they actually wanted to draw attention to that problem that is more common than you think?

No, that's wrong. EA doesn't make games, they publish them. Maxis makes the sims, so blame Will Wright, not EA.

Hmm that does seem odd then. What traits does your sim have? Wonder maybe it has something to do there. I don't know for sure, just trying to work through it myself.
