"Well our ship lies at harbour, she's ready to dock
I wish her safe landing without shake or shock
And if ever we should meet again on land or on sea
I will always remember your kindness to me"

and

"The sun's shining down on these green fields of France;
The warm wind blows gently, and the red poppies dance.
The trenches have vanished long under the plow;
No gas and no barbed wire, no guns firing now.
But here in this graveyard that's still No Man's Land
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To man's blind indifference to his fellow man.
And a whole generation who were butchered and damned."

"You know your days are numbered,
Count them one by one,
Like notches in the handle of an outlaw's gun.
You can outrun the devil, if you try,
But you'll never outrun the hands of time."

Mark collie- in time

one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard...it was hard picking out the right lyric but that is one of the best...but the whole song is just such a gem of a song. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone reading this to check it out.

Hiding from the laughter in the closets of our life
But the door hinges are squeaking
Letting in thin shards of light
And now a hand's extending outward
Quite comfort they invite
Do we dare take what they offer?
Do we step into the light?
When I die
Will they remember not
What I did
But what I haven't done?
It's not the end that I fear with each breath
It's life that scares me to death

Talvasota by Sabaton

"A Slice of the knife to a throat, and their blood turns to ice TALVISOTA!". Also "With molotov coctail in hand No fear of their tanks Death or glory!"

The entire song is pretty fucking epic

You said "lyric," so I'll do just as you asked:

Funny in a certain light, how we all look the same...

From "Shame" by Matchbox Twenty. For my money, the dude just solves all the world's problems with that verse, promptly passes it by without noticing it, and continues to wallow in the throes of lonliness. Heartbreaking song, but somehow really good for helping me with my own depression.

I don't like really wordy poetry in general, so I like it when someone can set up a mood or concept with just a few words, sort of like how a stand up comedian does.

For me, there's nothing better than:
The day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Try to run
Try to hide...
BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE

Also love the line in Peace Frog (also by The Doors)
"Ghosts crowd the young childs' fragile eggshell mind"

Madina Lake - "One Last Kiss"

There are two versions to this song, both insanely powerful in their own way, though I prefer the non-music video version, myself.

At some point in your music listening life you have come across a certain song whose music is amazing, and just when you think it can get no better a wondrous barrage of lyrical power hits you smack bang in the ear hole. It's almost so sweet that it brings a tear to your eye, but the same strength in the lyric keeps you strong.
My question to you is, what song/line from a song has had this effect on you?

The song that immediately springs to mind for me is Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas. Kinda self explanatory.
Ooh, that's a good one. Really drives me to keep killing demons.

OT: The chorus of this song really had a therapeutic effect on me when my most recent relationship crashed:

Also, Surprise Hotel by Fool's Gold. I can't understand a word he's saying, but it sounds fun.

And most recently, the lyrics to Rains of Castamere. Knowing the song's background, it's badass.

"A still more glorious dawn awaits,
Not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise.
A morning filled with 400 billion suns;
The rising of the Milky Way."

First time I heard it was in a Symphony of Science video, so it counts as a lyric.

'This cigarette it could seduce a nation with its smoke,
crawling down my tired throat, scratches part of me that's purring,
softly stirring.'

Sweet avenue by Jets to Brazil. Still is and always will be my favourite love song.

I've got a bike,
you can ride it if you like,
it's got a basket,
a bell that rings,
and things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could,
but I borrowed it.

I was going to post that, absolutely amazing lyrics in that song.

I think second to that for me is Octavarium by Dream Theater

Moreover, the 'Chorus' part (Just after the instrumental interval):

First:
Our deadly sins feel his mortal wrath
Remove all obstacles from our path
Second:
Asking questions
Search for clues
The answer's been right in front of you

Third:
Try to break through
Long to connect
fall on deaf ears and failed muted breath
Fourth:
Loyalty, trust, faith in desire
Carries love through each darkest fire

Fifth:
Tortured insanity
A smothering hell
Try to escape but to no avail
Sixth:
The calls of admirers
Who claim they adore
Drain all your lifeblood while begging for more

Seventh:
Innocent victims for merciless crimes
Fall prey to some madmen's impulsive designs
Eighth:
Step after step
We try controlling our fate
When we finally start living it's become too late.

I know, I'm posting this song, or at least songs by this artist, all over the place. But I can't help it, I'm kind of obsessed with DTP lately.

In "Praise The Lowered" by the Devin Townsend Project, Devin's singing about his recent switch to sobriety, from his substance-abuse-filled prior lifestyle. About halfway through the song, the temptation to go back to his old ways starts to take over, with these words being chanted in an almost demonic voice:

"Gimme that wine! Gimme that acid!
I wanna lose everything that's policing us, so then everything must begin!
I wanna do heroin! I wanna do crack cocaine!
I wanna lose everything but release, so why don't you just SMOKE. THAT. FUCKING. WEED!"

At which all hell breaks loose, in one of the most intense musical moments I've ever experienced. Moreso, it's probably the most accurate, vivid representations of addiction and temptation I've come across.
