Now let's talk about how awful it is when film adaptations get things wrong
*ahem*
It sure is awful when film adaptations get things wrong, while watching the film adaptation of an Irish Play: 'The Field', they got things wrong to new extremes, all but four of the characters are cut out or made minor characters, and of those four: one was turned into a yank (the point was that he was english, which made sense because the play is set shortly after we were free from the english), another of those four was turned into a crazy person who really could have been cut out considering everyone else was, but he wasn't, and with the last they ruined his character and took the vague love interest from the play then played it straight with someone else. Furthermore, one of the now minor characters was hated in universe and the film goes ahead and doesn't explain this at all, some parts of the film seem to gloss over important things while wishing you'd read/seen the play, while at other times things are so batshit crazy that it could only get away with them if you hadn't, yet, I can't say that it should be named something else, because in essence, it's still about the field and what happens to it, the motives and characters are changed completely and the point is taken out, but it's still about the field.
In short: brilliant play, terrible film
