The Slender Man is the most terrifying ghost story I've ever heard.

I will say this though.

The "Marble Hornets" videos?

Fucking scary.
You're right there... for a horror series thats only on youtube, its cleverly done and can infact be very tense at times! Personally I don't find Slenderman scary but rather fascinating. I have done my research on him and I have to hand it to the people who made him up because as far as internet myths go the Slenderman is a good ghost story.
I'm in the same position as you, interested in a modern horror icon. I don't find the idea of slenderman very scary, but that series does it justice.
One thing I will say against it though- much too long. It drags out the 'real events' and kind of turns into a TV series around the half way point. Would have been scarier cut to about 10 episodes, mostly regarding the original footage.
I totally agree there! It seems to move from good to bad like a rollercoaster, but luckily when it is good it keeps you interested. And I still love seeing the Slenderman in it just because he is just how I had imagined in my own head!
I just find it hilarious how well they keep the act up, not just in the videos but in regards to the channel and the schedule, not to mention 'tothearks' videos.
And then they link to the DVD, with the bloopers and deleted scenes! Hah.

I think once they're all up I'll download them, and do some copious editing. I think there's a really decent movie in all this, with a few... extractions.
Thats really not a bad idea!! The whole thing has even inspired me to create a similar project for my media production in college. Although I've got to keep it less than like 20 minutes so I'm going to try and create a shorter version but try my best to make it my own.
My suggestion? Either a more concise version of this premises, investigating lost footage etc, or make a documentary about it :) Because let's face it, the ones on YouTube are awful and have bad acting.

I think once all the vids are up I could tweak some of the less convincing stuff out. In one episode they literally have Slenderman standing outside a window- in broad daylight! Not very subtle.
I was thinking of some sort of documentary actually. I'd love to try and add a horror aspect to a factual programme haha! And I would most likely re create the footage because like you said; the acting at times is pretty poor...
Hah, well if you ever find yourself in South England making Slenderman movies, drop me a line. If I had any talent with photography and film I might have actually given it a stab myself.
Somehow my chosen art, writing, doesn't quite do it.

Meh. He's alright scary wise I suppose. If you're five maybe. Or in the right mood set.

Well if my work ever takes me there I'll get in touch because I'll always need writers! I write a lot of the stuff myself but its important I learn how to assemble a crew, which is hard when I insist on being so independant... >.<

Nothing tops a Marble Hornets marathon quite like this.
Just yes, just... yes.

The only thing that keeps me from being too scared of slenderman is the fact that you can actually visit the thread on the Something Awful forums where he is created conceptually. After watching even one vaguely slendy-related video, I need to curl up into fetal position with that page open repeating "He'snotreathe'snotreal"

Reminds me of an old short horror story I read with the monster being 'tall thin men about 15ft in height that were so thin they could hide by standing behind tree's or street lamps'. This short story also had these beings with extremely long arms and fingers and supernatural strength. Can't remember the book it was in though.

Probably the inspiration for this meme/hoax.
