Katie stirred and woke up, the sunlight streaming into her room through a deliberately-created gap in the leaf-and-branch roof. It had been a long night of sleep, considering she had gone to bed long before the others. She stretched and got up after a few minutes of lying in bed, changed clothes from her dress into a long-sleeved shirt and jeans and ran her hands through her hair, which had gotten tangled up overnight. She found a comb in one of her suitcases and ran it through her hair to make herself look somewhat respectable.
Taking her towel from its branch, Katie draped it over one shoulder and walked through the gardens to the Promenade, intending to have a quick shower before breakfast in the same way she had the previous day.
