Absolutely it is thee song in Red Dead redemption when you first travel to mexico. When that song kicked up and the background sound effects faded back I knew that game was something special. It raised the game in my eyes from a passable better than average game to one of my favorite games ever made.

I thought Dirge of Cerberus wasn't a perfect game with a couple of plot holes and voice acting was mediocre at times but nearing the end hearing the song Redemption by Gackt will watching beautiful cutscenes I felt that were one hell of a game.

ah. The Kingdom Hearts intro.

thank you for reminding me.
also the ending from this game was the only thing that ever moved me in a game.
along with this song.
Second. That opening music and movie were great and it compelled me to play the game after I saw the commercial for it. Just a good idea!

After hearing that, I just had to play the damn game. It's simply the most amazing intro song of any video game in history, although the visuals are basically nothing but all the pre-rendered scenes from the game thrown together in an order that would make you less likely to guess the plot.

The S.L.A.I. soundtrack
I can't name any of the specific ones, but they all added to the overall atmosphere, and were one of the many great things about the game.
Sorry I can't name a specific one, they never show the titles.

Still Alive - Mirror's Edge.

It's a better song than the Portal one, and just as suited to the game.

And I Go - Primal

Such a classy song - and it was partly the inspiration for the game. The band who did it (16 Volt) were hired for the soundtrack because one of the devs was a fan.

I'm surprised how it wasn't just Still Alive for every other post.
And Halo 3's theme is pretty awesome.
And seconded on that AC2 song.

I know its obvious, but the music in doom rocks and makes kicking the asses of demons so0 much more satisfying

Let's see. Since Still Alive has been mentioned already, likely more than once, that's out.

Instead, I'll nominate Border of Life from the final battle of Perfect Cherry Blossom, below.

Oh, and from the ending/credits of Iji (an excellent freeware game that you should be playing right now), Further. I won't link it here, since it kinda gives away what sort of ending the game's got, to an extent. That and, without the scene it accompanies, the song loses a good deal of its impact. So here's hoping you enjoy Border of Life instead.

Dreams of a Black Cat from Mana Khemia is probably one of my favorite songs, video game or not. It and the sequel have loads of great music though.

Quite often I go to sleep with the song playing.
